POSITION SUMMARY:

SEK-CAP Early Childhood Services supports and empowers teachers to improve instructional practices, promote developmentally appropriate learning experiences, and enhance outcomes for young children from birth through age five. The coach works collaboratively with educators to implement evidence-based teaching strategies, analyze student data, strengthen classroom environments, and foster continuous professional growth. Through coaching cycles, modeling, feedback, and professional development, the instructional coach helps ensure high-quality early childhood education across programs and classrooms.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Classroom and Child Development Oversight

• Model effective instructional strategies, classroom management techniques, and developmentally appropriate practices

• Support teachers in planning engaging, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning experiences
• Support implementation of classroom strategies that promote respect, kindness, and a sense of belonging
• Model and coach teachers on establishing consistent classroom routines that help children feel secure and understand expectations
• Assist teachers in arranging classroom environments to ensure accessibility and inclusion for children with diverse learning needs
• Guide teachers in using positive language and relationship-building strategies to create a warm, welcoming classroom climate
• Partner with teachers to identify and reduce classroom triggers that may contribute to challenging behaviors

Program Implementation and Compliance

• Support implementation of evidence-based curriculum, assessment systems, and instructional frameworks

• Conduct formal and informal classroom observations to provide feedback aligned with program quality standards and state early learning guidelines (CLASS, TPOT, TPITO, ITERS)
• Help teachers align learning centers and instructional strategies with curriculum and framework expectations
• Perform all program responsibilities within the parameters of the Head Start Performance Standards mandates, and Kansas Licensing regulations

Training and Professional Development

• Facilitate coaching cycles that include goal setting, observation, feedback, reflection, and progress monitoring

• Deliver coaching sessions for teachers and support staff
• Attend mandatory In-Service trainings and staff meetings

Data Management

• Assist educators in analyzing student assessment data to guide instruction and intervention

• Collaborate with teachers to identify instructional adjustments based on child outcomes.
• Help monitor program effectiveness and achievement of school readiness goals

Leadership and Program Support

• Maintain professionalism and a team structure; serve as a role model for staff, children and parents. Attend all service training as provided

• Support management decisions both in actions and words

• Responsible for reporting any suspected abuse or neglect to appropriate authority

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

• Basic computer skills, must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, data entry, email and digital calendars

• Basic operation skills of general office equipment such as photocopiers, faxes, and phone systems
• Superior interpersonal skills. Ability to get along with diverse personalities. Tactful, mature, and flexible
• Ability to meet and deal tactfully with the public and to communicate effectively and clearly both orally and in writing
• Resourceful and well organized
• Ability to learn and adapt

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in early childhood development, education, or related field
• Five to seven years of experience working in Early Childhood Education is preferred.
• Five years of supervisory experience preferred
• Be eligible to obtain KDHE program approval.
• Obtain and uphold current First Aid and CPR certification
• Submit to and pass a standard criminal history check
• Possess a current, valid driver’s license and meet agency insurance underwriting guidelines
• Successfully complete a physical exam and TB skin test before beginning employment
• Acquire CLASS, TPITO. ITERS, TPOT certifications

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

• Work effectively with multi-cultural/diverse groups, have the ability to establish a positive relationship with staff, families and children.
• Knowledge of different teaching methods and styles and have the ability to provide specialized and individualized instruction.
• Advanced skills in effective communication, both verbal and written.
• Knowledge of principles of coaching/mentoring; experience preferred.
• Knowledge of principles of child abuse reporting.
