RATE OF PAY: Per Master Agreement Schedule “C” Guideline JOB GOAL: To successfully lead the JV team as well as demonstrate commitment to student athletes, school, and community. The main responsibility is to instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the same time, the student shall receive instruction that will lead to the formulation of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence while analyzing their performance, instructing in relevant skills, and providing encouragement. Potential opportunity for teaching position available to qualified candidates. QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated successful accomplishments as a Basketball Coach in high school. Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of basketball. A commitment to provide student/athlete with a positive sport experience. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Successful experience as a player at the high school/college level. Hold a valid Michigan teaching certificate. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To plan, schedule and conduct a regular program of practice and competition in accordance with rules of the school, the School Board and the MHSAA Analyze game statistics and tactical data of opponents and prepare game plans accordingly To assist the varsity coach in the distribution /collection of appropriate information i.e. Parent Consent Forms, Physical Examination Forms, Birth Certificates, Grade Report Forms at the end of each grading period, Accident Forms and any other information concerning the sport To attend the appropriate meetings pertaining to basketball as scheduled by the MHSAA and the school, i.e. rules, clinics, scheduling meetings, etc. To assume responsibility for maintaining an accurate inventory of equipment pertaining to the sport Assist in overseeing the safety conditions of the facility or area assigned to the basketball program To assume responsibility for supervision, safety and welfare of students participating in the basketball program before, during and after scheduled practices and competitive contests To establish and maintain good rapport with athletes, staff, parents, community groups To assume responsibility for submitting requests for transportation forms To assist the Athletic Dept. in planning and organization of promotion and participant recruitment and recognition programs pertaining to the sport To perform assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner To perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director This position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge, or abilities associated with this classification, but to accurately reflect the primary job elements.
