Professional Structural Engineer – Steel Erection

Job Summary

We are seeking a Licensed Structural Engineer with extensive experience in steel erection, structural steel design, and construction support to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of structural engineering principles, steel fabrication and erection practices, temporary bracing systems, connection design, and field operations. This role will support structural projects from design through construction, ensuring safe, efficient, and code-compliant erection of structural steel systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, analyze, and review structural steel systems for commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects.
• Develop and review steel erection plans, erection sequences, temporary bracing systems, and stability analyses.
• Evaluate structural integrity during all phases of construction, including partially completed structures.
• Review and approve steel shop drawings, erection drawings, connection details, and fabrication submittals.
• Coordinate with steel fabricators, erectors, general contractors, architects, and project owners.
• Conduct site visits to monitor erection activities, investigate field issues, and provide engineering solutions.
• Perform structural calculations for temporary and permanent conditions.
• Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, OSHA regulations, AISC standards, and project specifications.
• Provide engineering support for crane picks, lifting plans, rigging considerations, and erection logistics as required.
• Respond to RFIs and field modifications during construction.
• Assist in troubleshooting erection challenges and resolving constructability issues.
• Mentor junior engineers and support project management efforts.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a Structural Engineering focus.
• Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• Minimum of 5 years of structural engineering experience with significant exposure to steel erection projects.
• Strong knowledge of structural steel design and construction practices.
• Thorough understanding of:

  • OSHA Steel Erection Standards (29 CFR 1926 Subpart R)
  • IBC and applicable local building codes
  • Temporary stability and bracing requirements
• Experience reviewing and designing steel connections.
• Proficiency with structural analysis software such as RISA-3D, RAM Steel, STAAD.Pro, ETABS, SAP2000, or similar.
• Ability to interpret fabrication, shop, and erection drawings.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Structural Engineer (SE) license.
• Experience working directly for a steel fabricator, steel erector, or specialty structural contractor.
• Experience with industrial facilities, power plants, petrochemical facilities, manufacturing plants, or large commercial steel structures.
• Familiarity with crane operations, rigging engineering, and heavy lift planning.
• Experience performing field inspections and construction engineering services.
• Revit and AutoCAD experience.

Physical Requirements
