Description:
The School Psychologist is responsible for supporting the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral success of students through assessment, consultation, intervention, and collaboration.
The School Psychologist works as a member of a multidisciplinary team to evaluate student needs and assist in educational planning.
The role involves promoting positive learning environments and ensuring compliance with special education regulations.
Essential duties include conducting comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations to assist in determining eligibility for special education and related services.
Interpretation of assessment results and preparation of detailed evaluation reports are required.
Participation in multidisciplinary team meetings, eligibility determinations, Individualized Education Program meetings, and Section 504 meetings is essential.
Collaboration with teachers, administrators, families, and related service providers is necessary to develop and implement interventions that support student success.
Observations, interviews, and behavioral assessments are conducted as part of the evaluation process.
The school psychologist assists in the development and implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans and Functional Behavioral Assessments.
Providing consultation regarding instructional strategies, behavioral supports, and social-emotional interventions is part of the role.
Crisis intervention efforts and assistance with threat assessments and student safety planning are expected when needed.
Data-based decision-making practices are utilized to monitor student progress and intervention effectiveness.
Individual or group counseling services may be provided as appropriate.
The school psychologist aids in the development and implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support and Response to Intervention processes.
Maintaining accurate, timely, and confidential records in accordance with regulations is critical.
Participation in professional development and maintaining current knowledge of school psychology best practices is required.
Additional duties may be assigned by district administration.
Knowledge of psychological assessment tools, evaluation procedures, and report writing is essential.
A strong understanding of child development, learning theory, behavioral principles, and mental health practices is needed.
Knowledge of applicable educational regulations is required.
The ability to analyze complex student data and make evidence-based recommendations is necessary.
Strong crisis intervention, consultation, and problem-solving skills are essential.
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities are important.
Collaboration with educators, administrators, parents, and community agencies is key.
Strong organizational and case-management skills are required to manage multiple evaluations, meetings, and timelines.
Physical requirements include the ability to travel between district buildings and work in various environments.
The ability to respond to student crises and emergency situations as necessary is essential.
