Communications Intern

The City of Marysville is seeking a creative, detail-oriented and driven Communications Intern to join our team.

Operating under the direct supervision of the Communications Manager, this role offers hands-on experience in municipal public relations and digital media strategy. The position provides immersive opportunities in local government outreach, digital narrative development, and public messaging, bridging academic instruction with practical public sector experience.

This part-time opportunity requires approximately 10 to 20 hours weekly, scheduled Monday through Friday, reporting directly to the Communications Manager.

Due to the nature of the work, this position requires high discretion, strict confidentiality, a proactive problem-solving mindset, and strong independent judgment regarding the City's public image.

Job Responsibilities

• Assist in the coordination and execution of public information activities, including social media updates, website maintenance, and digital newsletters.
• Monitor and update the City's official website to ensure accurate, current, and accessible information.
• Assist in the planning and executing of city-wide special events and public programs.
• Conduct independent research to compile reports and documents that inform city policy and administrative decisions.

Job Requirements

• Senior in high school or high school graduate currently enrolled in a study/college program from an accredited college/university in business administration, communication, or a similar field.
• Valid Ohio Driver's License with a good driving record.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace.
• Experience with content creation among various social media platforms to enhance engagement.
• Basic knowledge in videography, photography, and editing visual content.
• Prior experience in a professional office environment is a plus.

Supplemental Information

Pay rate: $16 - $18 per hour, depending on experience.
