GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, this position performs complex (journeylevel) building maintenance and construction work and is responsible for park operations, maintenance, and visitor services at the Albert & Bessie Kronkosky State Natural Area. Performs all phases of maintenance to facilities, buildings, vehicles, equipment, and grounds. Operates all types of equipment including trucks, power and hand tools, mowers, tractors, and other gasoline & dieseloperated equipment. Provides quality customer service, issues park permits and performs fee collection duties. Performs daily preventative maintenance (cleaning/inspecting) of public restrooms and rental facilities, including group facilities. Performs all aspects of grounds keeping, habitat and trail management including, but not limited to trimming, weeding, mowing and herbicide/pesticide application in accordance with all State regulations. Responsible for overseeing work of community service workers, volunteer staff, and other alternative workforces. Assists in enforcing park rules and regulations, performs resource management tasks, and interprets the park's natural resources. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Graduation from High School or GED.

Experience:

Three years of facility, equipment, or grounds maintenance experience.

Licensure:

Must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid state driver's license.

Note: Retention of position contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required license.


ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS:

Experience:

Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum substitution of two years.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:

Experience working with the public.

Experience in customer service and/or public relations.

Knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical, janitorial, and mechanical maintenance and repair tasks.

Knowledge of general maintenance techniques.

Knowledge of the construction, repair, maintenance, and operation of buildings, equipment, and utility systems.

Knowledge of building materials.

Knowledge of natural and cultural resource protection techniques.

Knowledge of basic mathematics.

Skill in using hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, tractors, vehicles, generators, and other mechanical equipment.

Skill in selecting appropriate tools and equipment and in troubleshooting situations to determine appropriate actions to resolve problems.

Ability to maintain all types of equipment such as hand tools, power tools, mowers, trimmers, chain saws, trucks, tractors, and other gasoline and dieselpowered equipment.

Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

Required to work in a public park with day use and overnight camping.

Required to work 40 hours per week, includes various schedules with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

Required to respond emergency situations.

Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.

Required to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.

Required to use appropriate safety procedures and equipment.

Required to work longer schedules during peak visitation demand.

Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules, and safety procedures.

Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays.

Required to operate a State vehicle.

Nonsmoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
