As a Senior Welder, you will play a critical role in supporting Caterpillar's product development and testing efforts at the Tucson Proving Ground. In this hands-on position, you will perform advanced welding, cutting, brazing, machining, and fabrication work on a wide range of heavy equipment, components, and custom projects. Your expertise will help ensure machines, test assets, and facility infrastructure remain safe, reliable, and ready to support world-class engineering validation and innovation.

What You'll Do:

• Performs necessary layout and development work and welding functions to fabricate and repair parts, assemblies, and prime products. Reads engineering drawings, schematics, manuals, and work orders for directions and safe operating practices.
• Performs diverse salvage and repair work on the prime product, facility equipment, and various support equipment.
• Performs brazing, MIG, TIG, stick, and wire feed welding of a variety of materials and parts, in all positions, and with precise heat application and control.
• Applies skills and experience to diagnose welding equipment problems.
• Communicates through verbal and written reports with technical staff, visitors, and customers on welding repair problems and solutions.
• Trains others on basic weld skills and on reading engineering drawings and layouts.
• Works with minimum supervision to perform all jobs.
• Operates all maintenance support machines and exercises all machine models.

What Skills Will You Have:

• Technical Excellence: Demonstrate expertise in welding, fabrication, machining, and metalworking processes, including MIG, TIG, stick, brazing, and wire-feed welding. Skilled in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications to fabricate, modify, and repair components and assemblies for heavy equipment and facility operations.
• Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Experience in diagnosing and resolving welding equipment, fabrication, and machinery issues. Effectively identifies root causes of equipment failures, repair challenges, and process irregularities to deliver safe, reliable, and high-quality solutions.
• Problem Solving: Proven ability to evaluate complex repair and fabrication requirements, determine appropriate welding methods and materials, and develop practical solutions for heavy equipment, facility infrastructure, and custom projects while maintaining quality and safety standards.
• Effective Communications: Ability to clearly communicate technical information, repair recommendations, project status updates, and welding solutions to engineers, team members, customers, and other stakeholders. Support a collaborative work environment through both verbal and written communication.
• Manufacturing & Fabrication Processes: Strong understanding of fabrication techniques, machining operations, and manufacturing processes. Experience in operating and programming CNC brake presses, tube benders, manual/CNC lathes, mills, and other machine tools to produce quality components and assemblies.
• Safety & Quality Focus: Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, precision, and workmanship by following established procedures, inspect completed work, and ensuring repairs and fabricated components meet engineering and operational standards.

Top Candidate Will Also Have:

• Welder certifications.
• Must be strong in layout and development, exhibit safe work practices, and possess good mechanical comprehension.
• Must possess the ability to communicate effectively with the technical staff, visitors, and customers.
• Must have experience in the repair and maintenance of construction equipment.
• Works effectively in a team environment. Shifts easily into the role of either team member or team leader.
• 5 years of experience in the repair, maintenance, and fabrication of construction equipment.

The location for this position is Green Valley, AZ (Tucson Proving Ground).

Summary Pay Range: $24.75 – $37.15
