Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) (Onsite)

What You Will Do The Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) functions as a subject‑matter expert on information systems security control methods, mitigations, and tools throughout the systems lifecycle in compliance with U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) security laws, regulations and guidelines. Primary Responsibilities Serve as the information systems security lead for IT‑related projects supporting the ME portfolio of programs. Ensure delivery of RMF artifact elements for new information systems; compile and submit to ISSMs for ATO. Influence and guide project teams in designing information system solutions that align with DoD policies and regulations. Collaborate with system engineers, developers and administrators to resolve compliance issues through mitigation and remediation plans. Develop, assess, verify, and manage the implementation of security‑related tools, measures, and controls in compliance with DoD and corporate policies. Review existing systems to identify opportunities for process improvement and risk reduction. Architect technical solutions to enhance continuous monitoring strategies and improve workflows. Lead closure of POA&M items for enclave information systems. Assist in developing and reviewing policies, plans, procedures, and standard work related to information system security measures and configurations. Oversee the patch management process and execution across all security enclaves. Collaborate with peer GSC ISSEs and corporate equivalents to share best practices and support the threat intelligence program. Coordinate incident response containment, eradication, and recovery tasks involving classified systems and spills of classified data. Support information system security‑related inspection preparations as needed. Assist in developing and maintaining standards for information security methods and tools. Help author and maintain associated training content for the enclave. Qualifications You Must Have U.S. citizenship; only U.S. citizens are authorized. Active Secret‑level U.S. government security clearance; Ability to obtain Top Secret clearance. Advanced degree with 3+ years of experience in systems administration/engineering or a cybersecurity support role; OR Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of relevant industry experience; OR Associate’s degree with 7+ years of relevant industry experience. 2+ years of hands‑on experience in an ISSO, ISSM or ISSE role (or equivalent). DoD 8140 functional and baseline certification requirements such as Security+ (or equivalent). Qualifications We Prefer Expert-level administration of Splunk Enterprise deployments, including custom ingestion pipelines and dashboards. Experience with vulnerability scanning tools: Tenable/Nessus, OpenVAS, ACAS. Strong scripting skills (bash, Python, PowerShell); experience with Ansible. Network traffic analysis using Wireshark; strong understanding of common vulnerabilities and exploit development. Knowledge of MITRE ATT&CK framework and TTPs. Programming proficiency in Python, C/C++, Java. Ability to develop, document and interpret network and wiring diagrams, system architectures, and data flow diagrams. Active certifications: Splunk core/enterprise/architect; Tenable Security Center; GIAC (GSEC, GCIH, GCFE, GPYC, GPEN, GMON); CompTIA Sec+, CySA+. Role Type Onsite: Employees must work primarily onsite. Commuting to the assigned site is a personal responsibility. Salary & Benefits Salary range: $107,500 – $204,500 USD.
