One-On-One Nurse/Respiratory Therapist

Reports to: Nurse Coordinator

Work Days: Monday-Friday Full-Time

Minimum Qualifications:

• Current licensure as a registered nurse or respiratory therapist.
• Provide documentation of license verification, CPR certification, and skills proficiency specific to student's medical needs.

Essential Functions:

• Work as a liaison between the parent, doctor and school to ensure continuity of care.
• Follow all expectations listed in the SMCSC employee handbook and school board policies.
• Be primarily responsible to be the provider of services related to the students Health Care Plan while at school and school-related events during the school day (ex. field trips).
• May include but not limited to: Vent/Trach care Manage Vent equipment Nebulizer Treatment Personal Care and hygiene needs of student G-J Tube care Stoma care Accompany the student during designated school times/events from arrival at school through dismissal including lunch with the student.
• Review and implement all medical orders to become thoroughly familiar with the implementation of the student's emergency protocols, emergency evacuation procedures and be prepared to carry out these procedures.
• Provide copies of all medical orders/updates to the nurse coordinator.
• Place orders in the student's Health Services Plan file (this may be provided directly or through the parent).
• Document all medical interventions while at school and school-related events on the daily documentation record.
• The employee must be able to lift and/or move objects/supplies and equipment and/or designated student.
• While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be required to sit, stand and walk.
• The employee may be required to use personal protective equipment to mitigate risk of exposure to blood-borne pathogens and communicable diseases.
• Communicate with the nurse coordinator and identified administration when unable to work.
• Must be able to maintain confidentiality as it relates to the student and other students in the class/program/school in accordance with school policy, district policy, Indiana Article 7, and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
• Support students with academic/educational needs as directed by the teacher.

Working Conditions:

To promote safety, employees are expected to exercise caution and comply with safety regulations and corporation policies/procedures when involved in the following situations/conditions. The physical environment may require the employee to work both inside and outside of the building related to school and community environments with the student.

Performance Evaluation: Job performance is evaluated according to policy and provisions and contractual agreements adopted by the SMCSC.
