Job Opportunity: Family Practice Physician - Medical Director
Our organization, in partnership with a local health center, is on the lookout for a skilled board-certified or board-eligible Family Practice Physician to take on the role of Medical Director within our Primary Care practice. This position involves not only delivering primary care services to a dedicated patient panel but also overseeing the operations of the Rural Health Clinic (RHC). The selected candidate will report directly to the Chief Medical Officer.
The ideal candidate will receive robust support from a team of experienced leaders, nurses, medical assistants, and care coordinators, all committed to providing evidence-based, team-oriented care. Our practice is dedicated to offering comprehensive healthcare and is deeply integrated into the local community.
This full-time role includes both clinical responsibilities and designated time for fulfilling the duties associated with the Medical Director position at the Newport Health Center (NHC) RHC. In addition to standard clinical tasks, the Medical Director will oversee clinical leadership and provider management in collaboration with the NHC clinic leadership team, ensuring high-quality patient care, financial sustainability, patient satisfaction, employee engagement, and adherence to regulatory standards.
Qualifications- At least four (4) years of clinical practice experience is required; experience in a Rural Health Clinic (RHC) or Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) is preferred.
- Proven leadership experience focused on developing personnel, particularly in training clinical staff and colleagues.
- Highly motivated and adaptable, with a strong ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of fostering positive relationships with colleagues.
- Ability to engage effectively with clinicians, management, and various medical and non-medical professionals.
- Proficient in the use of electronic health records and related technologies.
- Board certification or eligibility in Family Medicine is mandatory.
- Must obtain and maintain a medical license in the State of New Hampshire.
Overall Objectives
- Act as the primary contact for all NHC providers, including physicians and advanced practice providers (APPs).
- Serve as a liaison between the NHC team and the primary care team, as well as hospital administration.
- Work with medical staff committees to enhance communication, efficiency, and effectiveness of clinic services.
- Foster collegial relationships with colleagues across the organization, aligning with our core values.
- Ensure effective patient interactions that lead to optimal outcomes.
- Collaborate with the NHC leadership team to meet departmental goals and objectives.
- Coordinate with the primary care medical director to maintain consistency in processes and clinical outcomes across sites.
- Represent the organization at various quality or primary care meetings as directed by senior leadership.
Performance Expectations
Clinical Leadership and Provider Oversight
- Ensure adherence to all organizational policies and procedures.
- Confirm that all providers are informed of and comply with medical staff bylaws and regulations.
- Conduct regular check-ins with employed providers and document as required by human resources.
- Support employee engagement initiatives within the NHC.
- Review and approve medical record-keeping practices to ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
- Maintain provider staffing schedules to guarantee timely patient care.
- Participate in the recruitment and onboarding of new providers, facilitating their integration into the organization.
- Address and resolve conflicts among providers and between team members.
- Mentor providers for their professional growth and development.
- Ensure attendance at mandatory training and educational programs as required.
- Utilize leadership skills to communicate, collaborate, and build consensus among RHC teams.
Clinical Quality
- Oversee Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement initiatives in collaboration with the Medical Director of Ambulatory Quality.
- Fulfill the responsibilities of Medical Director for the RHC as outlined in relevant guidelines.
- Promote ambulatory quality initiatives and collaborate with various teams to identify improvement opportunities.
- Attend monthly quality workgroup meetings and collaborate with ambulatory leaders on quality initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with CMS conditions of participation and participate in unannounced surveys.
- Oversee non-physician providers delivering care at NHC.
- Work with the primary care medical director to keep clinical policies updated.
- Ensure that all providers maintain accurate and timely patient medical records.
- Collaborate with the quality team and senior leadership to address patient care concerns.
Business Management
- Work with the NHC leadership team to manage clinic operations effectively.
- Provide insights to senior leadership regarding strategic planning.
- Offer feedback on staff performance from the providers' perspective.
Other
- Maintain good standing as an active member of the medical staff.
Mandatory Licenses:
- DEA License
- Licensed MD or DO eligible in New Hampshire
Required Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
