Overview

The Job in a Nutshell:

The Network Administrator will provide technical expertise to support networks and systems needed in day to day operations.  This includes tasks such as installing, configuring, and supporting of local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN).  The Network Administrator will also conceive, design, test, and implement improvements to the information systems infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Main Ingredients:

1. Responsible for the following items:
   1. Assumes the responsibility for following all documented policies that the IT Department has in place.
   2. Follows procedures to install, implement and support perimeter and internal network design, reliability/stability, network security to ensure the appropriate layers of security software and devices are correctly configured, deployed and maintained. This includes, but is not limited to configure, secure and monitor products within the following series:
      1. Cisco 2900/3500/3700 switches (layer 2 and layer 3)
      2. Palo Alto Firewalls
      3. Lumen managed Versa SDWAN network
      4. Cisco Meraki Wireless platform
      5. Cloud hosted proxy servers
      6. Microsoft Azure networking
      7. OpenGear console servers
      8. Responsible for the entire network at Natural Grocers
2. Possesses strong network foundation knowledge such as OSI Model, TCP/IP fundamentals, network switch functions, network router functions, and network router functions.
3. Establishes network specifications by conferring with users; analyzing workflows, access controls, information and security requirements; designing hardware administration, including interface configurations and routing protocols (dynamic and static).
4. Follows procedures to secure the network by applying network access policies, maintaining network segmentation, monitoring various controls and evaluating all logs and alerts.
5. Follows procedures to review and monitor logs on various systems (servers and network devices), scrutinizing network traffic and devices for any hardware/software/interface issues, evaluating inconsistent adherence to security policies, etc.
6. Analyzes and resolves any alerts (hardware, software, security, etc.) All alerts must be responded to according to the severity level of the alert. Monitoring alerts on the weekend will be required via email, and escalations to various crew members may be needed.
7. Works with the other crew members to conduct audits and ensure network segmentation is in place.
8. Follows procedures to ensure that the network(s) are locked down and segmented.
9. Follows procedures to activate new circuits (convert from a single or bonded-T1 to an ethernet circuit with CenturyLink and remote boots on the ground).
10. Analyzes problems and provides technical assistance to solve them.
11. Follows procedures to evaluate and remediate the networking performance issues, including availability, utilization, QoS, throughput and latency.
12. Follows procedures to configure, install, test and maintain of all network related devices.
13. Contacts various vendors and arranges for repair, troubleshooting, updates, etc. for software and hardware related issues within the networking department.
14. Cross trains any other IT crew member will be conducted on networking related items.
15. Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
16. Supports tier 1 and tier 2 related requests for issues in production, testing, and development environments.
17. Assists in creating and defining network policies and procedures.
18. Assists in documenting all aspects of the network.
19. Assists in documenting all standards and procedures.
20. Establishes and maintains effective communication and coordination with Company staff (good4u crew, management, etc.). This includes maintaining regular contact with all departments to obtain information and to correct error(s) in the network operations.
21. Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
22. Follows procedures to remediate any PCI/Vulnerability assessments.
23. Follows procedures to analyze and determine if new products/services are safe for the environment based on PCI and SOX compliance standards.
24. Works on projects with internal and external resources, and completing project on time, on budget, and as promised.
25. Supports SOX and PCI compliance and internal audit tasks.
26. Understands and abides by change control practices.
27. Provides outstanding customer service and a happy attitude to our employees, stores, and customers.
28. Schedules, maintains, and participates in the on-call rotation, respond to all messages sent by Natural Grocers staff in a timely manner, including off hours and vacations.
29. Some after hours work (post 5:00pm) may and will be required from time to time. The frequency will vary based on the project(s) at hand; however, you will still be required to maintain the computing and network environment, installing/upgrading various systems and monitoring network performance during this time.
30. Other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

Recipe for Success:

1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience combined is required
2. Possession of a network administration certificate (i.e. Comptia Net+, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)) is desired
3. 3 years network Administrator for a mid-size enterprise (500+ employees, multiple domains, 20+ locations, 4+ IT team members)
4. 3 years of experience administering Cisco centric network environment (switch configurations)
5. Working knowledge of how firewalls and access lists work
6. Working knowledge of how availability monitoring software works to monitor network hardware devices
7. Working knowledge of how network device logging works Strong communications skills, consistently hitting deadlines, staying within budgets, and achieving all project deliverables
8. Strong network troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, including application and network-level troubleshooting
9. Dedicated to providing outstanding customer service to our employees, stores, and customers
10. Scripting experience for task automation desired
11. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
12. Experience with hardware maintenance and lifecycle
13. ITIL Foundation certification a plus
14. Experience with various frameworks, compliance regulations, and how to secure systems based on them (CIS Controls, NIST, PII/PCI, SOX, etc.)
15. Maintains a positive and supportive attitude when communicating with others
16. Self-driven / Self-motivated to learn new skills
17. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participates in professional organizations
18. Some travel may be required
19. Other job duties as required
