Custodian

Job Title

Qualifications: The custodian shall be of good moral character, be able to perform job tasks, able to read and write, and have some mechanical abilities.

Selection: The Board of Trustees, according to State law upon recommendation of the appropriate Principal and the Superintendent, according to the employment procedures of the School District

Duties:

• Keeps buildings and premises, including sidewalks and driveways, neat and clean at all times.
• Regulates heat, ventilation and air-conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water and electricity.
• Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are open.
• Sweeps classrooms daily.
• Cleans halls each day.
• Scrubs, hoses down, and disinfects toilets daily.
• Wash all windows inside and out at least twice per year.
• Keeps all grounds free of rubbish.
• Assist in yard-keeping chores such as mowing grass and trimming school grounds, and tree trimming.
• Strips, waxes, and buffs tile floors twice per year.
• Makes minor building repairs.
• Reports major repair needs to the Principal.
• Reports to the Principal any damage to school property.
• Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and determines, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off.
• Keep an inventory of supplies, equipment, and fuel on hand.
• Conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repairs.
• Moves furniture or equipment within building as required.
• Conducts periodic inspections of all electrical systems to ensure safe operations.
• Performs other duties assigned by the Principal.
