Machine Shop Supervisor
The Machine Shop Supervisor directs and coordinates activities of the CNC Machining Department in safety, materials management, productivity / job / work order management, scheduling and personnel management. The Machine Shop Supervisor prepares work schedules and delegates workflow along with ensuring machine function and output are in accordance with specifications and quality standards. The Machine Shop Supervisor monitors and evaluates production records and reports findings to management. Along with training machine operators and machinists. Essential duties and responsibilities include overseeing daily functions of the CNC Machining department, providing all personnel with work assignments and maintaining a constant work level, working directly with personnel to provide instruction and guidance, identifying training needs and providing training where required, verifying that all previous operations have been signed off before assigning a job, scheduling jobs to run by priorities set on the production board coordinating with the production manager to maintain a smooth workflow, making sure that new jobs for the CNC machines are programmed and special tooling for any job is identified and ordered in advance, identifying problems with production / quality and being prepared to identify the root cause of any of these problems, training department personnel in basic quality procedures, work instructions, and documents that pertain to your department, verifying that all first piece inspections are performed and approved, ensuring all department personnel keep their work area and machines clean, coolant levels up, chips from removed from their machines and areas at the end of their shift and when their job is finished, responsible for verifying that all company inspection equipment and tools in the department are in calibration, ensuring that all jobs are identified with a job number, adhering to all safety policies and ensuring proper eye and hearing protection is used by all team members under their supervision, responsible for team member clocking and timecard review, performing all functions of the job while adhering to established quality policies and procedures, upholding the company core values, and other duties as assigned.
Supervisory responsibilities directly supervises team members in the CNC Machining department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, and training team members; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining team members; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Successful accomplishment of duties and responsibilities may require the following: ability to operate the various machines within the department with minimal instruction, ability to read and understand drawings, blueprints and specifications, good leadership skills and be capable of training team members, capability of programming when called upon, capability of working with minimal supervision, excellent communication skills, both written and oral, adaptability to a changing work environment and competing demands.
Reasoning abilities include prioritizing activities and work under pressures at all times, comply with safety standard procedures, be able to differentiate between a symptom and a root of the problem, open to change and improvements, maintain clean and organized workspace.
Physical demands include standing, walking, and hearing. The team member frequently is required to use hands and fingers; handle, feel, and reach with hands and arms. The team member is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and smell. The team member must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work environment characteristics include exposure to moving mechanical parts. The team member may be exposed to hot and/or cold work environment chemicals, fumes or airborne particles, loud noises, risk of electrical shock and vibration low and high temperatures and/or other occupational hazards; personal protective equipment may be required.
Additional information includes actively supporting and complying with Vitesse Systems objectives, guidelines and commitment to Quality and Safety, with an emphasis on continual improvement, transparency, and collaboration. Must be able to interact effectively and cooperatively with employees at all levels. Must have the ability to complete assignments within the timeframe specified by the Manager. Must be flexible regarding working hours and overtime. Must be able to operate in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously. Computer skills: Outlook email, Excel data entry, Word, log in and out of ERP and Payroll time tracking software.
Education and/or experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); 2 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Language skills: Ability to speak and understand basic safety and manufacturing instructions. Mathematical skills: Ability to add and subtract decimals out to 4 places. Ability to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
