A locally owned metal fabrication, welding and repair company in Newberry, FL is seeking an experienced, hands‑on General Manager. The company works with steel, stainless steel, aluminum and other materials, serving customers with a wide range of fabrication and repair needs. It is committed to quality workmanship, reliable service and operational excellence.

The Role

The General Manager provides overall leadership for daily operations, production, workforce management and operational performance. You will make sure fabrication and welding operations run safely, efficiently and profitably, with high standards of quality and customer satisfaction. This is a role for a leader who is comfortable on the shop floor, solving production problems and building consistent processes.

What You’ll Do

• Direct daily operations, including fabrication, welding, production scheduling, material handling and equipment use
• Keep production schedules, customer orders and projects on time and on quality
• Identify bottlenecks and capacity limits, and put corrective actions in place
• Track production metrics such as throughput, labor productivity, quality and on-time delivery
• Lead continuous improvement to reduce waste and downtime
• Lead shop personnel, supervisors and welders: set expectations, hold people accountable, and recruit, train and develop the team
• Enforce OSHA compliance, safety procedures and preventative maintenance, and reduce defects and rework
• Oversee purchasing, inventory and material costs
• Manage operational budgets, labor costs and job costing, and work with ownership on staffing and equipment investments

Required Qualifications

• 7 to 10+ years of progressive experience in metal fabrication, welding, steel processing or industrial manufacturing
• 5+ years in an operations leadership or management role
• Proven experience overseeing production, shop-floor employees and manufacturing processes
• Strong understanding of fabrication and welding operations, scheduling and material management
• Solid knowledge of manufacturing costs, labor utilization, inventory and budgeting
• Strong knowledge of workplace safety and quality standards
• Excellent leadership, communication and problem-solving skills
• Willingness to take a hands-on approach to daily operations

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous role as General Manager, Plant Manager, Operations Manager, Production Manager or Director of Operations
• Experience in a custom fabrication shop, steel fabrication company, metal service center or welding operation
• Background in job-shop or project-based manufacturing
• Familiarity with lean manufacturing and KPI-driven management
• Experience in a privately held or owner-operated business
• Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Engineering, Manufacturing, Business Administration or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered
