Substitute Nurse

Substitute LPN or RN Position

School District 196 is currently accepting applications for substitute LPN or RNs to provide substitute services for our students. Opportunities to work with students in kindergarten through 12th grade. We offer flexible days and a great place to work.

Qualifications:

• Hold current Minnesota State license as a Registered Nurse, or Licensed Practical Nurse
• Current certification in CPR
• Excellent communication skills
• Knowledge of current practices for common childhood illnesses and chronic diseases: asthma management, diabetes, insulin pen and pumps, seizure management, COVID-19 protocols and infection control
• Ability to perform skilled nursing care such as catheterization, suctioning, gastrostomy tube feedings, insulin administration, insulin pump skills and nebulizer treatments
• Demonstrated experience and proficiency working with a culturally, ethnically, racially and socioeconomically diverse school community is preferred
• Skilled with electronic health care record

Desirable Qualifications:

• Baccalaureate or Associate degree in nursing
• Experience in pediatric, acute care, and/or community or public health nursing
• Prior experience in school nursing, or acute care setting

Reports To: Health Services Coordinator, LSN and building Principal

Primary Role: To provide primary health and emergency care to students, promote wellness and serve as a resource for health concerns in the school setting.

Responsibilities:

• Administers medications and treatments as ordered.
• Provides care for student and staff illness and accidents.
• Administers care based on individual health care plans and individual emergency care plans.
• Serves as liaison between the home and the school regarding student health concerns.
• Documents all encounters in the Electronic Health Record.
• Follows communicable disease control procedures and informs administration and/or parents regarding school exclusion and readmission.

Compensation: $29.00 per hour
