Electric Utility Electrician

Department – Silicon Valley Power (SVP) Silicon Valley Power provides over 40 percent of Santa Clara’s electricity from carbon‑free renewable resources and is committed to reliable, competitively priced services for all customers. Position Electric Utility Electrician – performs inspections and maintenance on equipment in SVP substations, including power transformers, instrument & control transformers, circuit breakers, disconnect switches, relays, and ancillary control systems. Equipment is rated at 12,000 volts and above. Responsibilities Inspect and maintain substation equipment. Provide after‑hours emergency response to events impacting substation equipment. Perform routine inspections, troubleshoot equipment, and conduct maintenance on high‑voltage substation systems. Minimum Education Requirements Graduation from high school or possession of a G.E.D. Minimum Experience Requirements Journey‑level electrician status with proof of certification or completion of a formal apprenticeship or training program. Experience maintaining high‑voltage substation equipment, power generation equipment, or industrial manufacturing facilities. Acceptable Substitution None. License/Certifications Valid California Class C driver’s license required at the time of appointment and during employment. Desirable Qualifications Journey‑level experience maintaining solid‑state traffic signal equipment. Other Requirements Work shifts, weekends, odd hours, and emergency calls as required. Work in inclement weather. Travel between sites and occasionally work at considerable heights. Normal color vision at time of appointment. Subject to drug and/or alcohol testing as mandated by federal regulations. Must be able to perform all essential functions of the job. Salary Range $162,470.28 – $207,554.04 (may be filled at or near the minimum of the range). Veteran’s Preference Points This position qualifies for Veteran’s Preference Points.
