Forklift Operator

This role focuses on safely and efficiently operating forklifts to support shipping and receiving activities within a busy warehouse environment. The Forklift Operator / Warehouse Operator receives, inspects, stages, and loads freight according to established procedures, while maintaining a clean, organized, and safety-focused work area. The position requires consistent attention to detail, accurate documentation, and effective collaboration with supervisors and coworkers.

Responsibilities

• Follow all safety, company, and department procedures at all times.
• Receive freight by adhering to all department and account procedures.
• Receive freight in a professional and prudent manner, ensuring care and accuracy.
• Write detailed inspection reports for all compromised or damaged freight.
• Take clear and accurate photographs of all compromised freight for documentation.
• Cube-out and stage all incoming freight correctly to maximize space and efficiency.
• Receive freight and complete all required documentation within reasonable timeframes.
• Work collaboratively with supervisors and coworkers in a professional and respectful manner.
• Follow all loading safety procedures to protect people, equipment, and freight.
• Follow container report loading procedures and all shipping procedures.
• Check and inspect freight thoroughly before loading to ensure accuracy and condition.
• Cube-out and utilize containers to their fullest capacity while maintaining safety standards.
• Work with other employees using a team-based approach to meet operational goals.
• Collaborate with supervisors and coworkers on load decisions in a respectful and solution-focused manner.
• Turn in accurate daily reports at the end of each shift.
• Complete loading tasks within the time allowed and in line with productivity expectations.
• Attend all daily start-up meetings to receive updates, instructions, and safety information.
• Perform daily checks on forklifts to ensure safe and reliable operation.
• Use forklifts to load and unload containers safely and efficiently.
• Provide accurate information on department activity reports and related documentation.
• Maintain a clean, debris-free work area to support safety and efficiency.
• Use hand-held instruments and devices for receiving and loading activities.
• Perform other duties and projects as assigned by management.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• At least six months of related warehouse, shipping, or receiving experience.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence clearly and accurately.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
• Basic math skills, including the ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s.
• Ability to perform calculations using units of American currency, weight, volume, and distance.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but straightforward written or oral instructions.
• Ability to solve problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Forklift certification (company-certified or ability to obtain company certification).
• Hazardous handling certification (company-certified or ability to obtain company certification).
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds, with assistance available when needed.
• Ability to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, crouch or crawl for significant portions of the shift, as required by warehouse tasks.
• Ability to talk and hear clearly in a busy, loud environment.
• Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less) and distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more).
• Color vision with the ability to identify and distinguish colors.
• Peripheral vision to observe an area up and down or side to side while focusing on a given point.
• Depth perception and three-dimensional vision to judge distances and spatial relationships when operating equipment.
• Ability to adjust focus to bring objects into sharp clarity during detailed tasks.

• Experience in warehouse, shipping, and receiving operations.
• Experience operating sit-down forklifts in a warehouse or distribution environment.
• Comfort using hand-held devices or scanners for receiving and loading.
• Strong attention to detail when inspecting freight and completing documentation.
• Team-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate effectively with supervisors and coworkers.
• Professional communication skills for interacting with internal teams and external contacts.
• Reliability and punctuality to support consistent first-shift operations.

Work Environment

The role is based in a warehouse environment that operates on a first shift schedule, typically from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Work takes place near moving mechanical parts and involves exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, vibration, and a loud noise level. The position requires frequent standing, walking, reaching, climbing or balancing, and stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, as well as the use of forklifts and hand-held devices for receiving and loading. The work area must remain clean and free of debris to support safety. Appropriate work attire and personal protective equipment are required to safely operate forklifts and handle materials in this industrial setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fullerton, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
