Speech Language Pathologist (SLP)
The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) will provide specialized instruction and therapeutic services to support students with communication disorders and related needs. This includes direct intervention in the areas of articulation, expressive and receptive language, fluency, and voice, as well as collaboration in addressing behavioral and emotional needs that impact communication and learning. The SLP will design and implement individualized therapy plans, integrate evidence-based strategies, and work closely with teachers, support staff, and families to promote student success.
Eligible for $7,000 Annual Stipend
Minimum Requirements
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or related field from an accredited college or university.
- Licensed (license equivalent) by the state of Texas as a speech/language pathologist, or American Speech Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) equivalent or Certification by TEA as a speech therapist.
- Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in school-based settings is preferred; however, new graduates are encouraged to apply, and Clinical Fellowship (CF) supervision will be provided.
- CCC certification.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrated competency in speech/language therapy.
- Knowledge of policies and procedures addressing specific duties/responsibilities of the position of Speech/Language Pathologist or Therapist.
- Ability to administer and interpret assessment instruments related to communication disorders.
- Ability to analyze data and provide recommendations.
- Ability to solve problems, think critically, and manage conflicts.
- Strong organizational, presentation and interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain accurate records and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrate and maintain current knowledge, understanding and skill appropriate to job assignment.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal rules and regulations pertaining to special education.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, to include written and verbal skills and the ability to work cooperatively with individuals, and the ability to resolve conflicts.
- Ability to conduct all activities in accordance with the highest ethical standards.
- Proficient in Google Drive and Google programs (Docs, Sheets, Forms, and Slides).
- Daily attendance at work and punctuality are essential functions of the job.
Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with students, parents, and other school staff to implement student's IEP.
- Implement an instructional, therapeutic, or skill development program for assigned students and show written evidence of preparation as required.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
- Present subject matter effectively and according to guidelines established by IEP. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media including technology to meet the needs and capabilities of each student assigned.
- Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Manage student behavior Consult with classroom teachers regarding management of student behavior according to IEP.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
- Maintain professional relationships with parents, students, and colleagues.
- Keep informed of and comply with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies for special education teachers.
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
- Organize, lead, and implement behavior-focused events at both the district and campus levels.
- Communicate campus needs promptly to the assigned coordinator and program supervisor.
- Offer ongoing support to school staff to ensure adherence to special education laws and policies at the local, state, and federal levels.
- Partner with campus and district staff to promote a unified approach to student success for those receiving special education services.
- Take part in Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) meetings, provide interpretation of assessment data and assist in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Share and explain assessment results to relevant school personnel to inform educational planning.
- Compile comprehensive evaluation reports following the district's established reporting format.
- Assists in the development and review of district special education policies and procedures and communicates updates and changes to relevant stakeholders.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy.
- Comply with all district routines and regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality of all information.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervision of students, speech language pathology assistants, practicum students and interns.
Working Conditions
Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals.
Posture: Frequent walking, standing, Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
Motion: Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse. Occasional reaching.
Lifting: Lifting and carrying 10-25 pounds frequently, 25-40 pounds occasionally, more than 45 pounds infrequently with assistance; Pushing/pulling 10-35 pounds sporadically.
Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise. May be required under specific circumstances to provide physical restraint of students in danger of causing harm to themselves or others. Frequent districtwide and occasional statewide travel.
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions and prolonged or irregular hours.
