2027 Automation & Process Analytics Technology Co-Op (June - Dec)

AbbVie seeks a graduate co-op student to support integration of spectroscopy with automated liquid-handling robotics for cell culture analysis. The six-month program (June–December) in Worcester, MA combines hands-on work in optical spectroscopy, laboratory automation, aseptic cell culture, and data analytics to advance biologics process development.
Responsibilities
- Integrate spectroscopy systems with automated liquid-handling platform for at-line spectral analysis
- Design and 3D print custom labware and sampling components for automated workflows
- Develop and troubleshoot automated liquid-handler methods for sample transfer and system cleaning
- Perform aseptic mammalian cell culture operations including thawing, passaging, and banking
- Collect and analyze Raman spectral data; apply chemometrics to build predictive models for quality attributes
Requirements
- Enrolled in Master's program in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Chemistry, or related field
- Proficiency in aseptic techniques and mammalian (CHO) cell line handling
- Knowledge of optical spectroscopy methods: Raman, fluorescence, absorbance
- Understanding of cell metabolism, protein characterization, and CHO cell culture development
- Ability to commit full-time to Worcester, MA site June–December 2027
- Critical thinking and troubleshooting skills for complex robotics and instrumentation
