Position Details

• Location: Detroit, MI 48226
• Pay Rate: $28–$31 per hour
• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–4:00 PM

Job Summary

The Building Engineer is responsible for maintaining building operations, completing work orders, and performing preventive maintenance and corrective repairs to ensure the property operates safely and efficiently.

This role supports the Chief Engineer or Director of Engineering in implementing building policies and procedures, with a strong focus on building performance, environmental standards, fire and life safety, and overall property maintenance in alignment with the owner's goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and corrective repairs on building systems, equipment, and grounds.
• Inspect and maintain building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire alarms, to ensure proper operation and compliance with required environmental conditions.
• Complete assigned maintenance, emergency repairs, and preventive maintenance tasks while maintaining accurate service and repair records.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair building systems, including plumbing, HVAC, kitchen equipment, roofs, and drainage systems.
• Coordinate and provide direction to maintenance staff, technicians, and outside contractors on assigned projects as needed.
• Respond promptly to emergency situations and coordinate additional support when necessary.
• Monitor and support energy management initiatives to improve system efficiency and minimize operating costs.
• Maintain building lighting systems, including replacing lamps, ballasts, and other components as needed.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support building operations and property needs.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of building maintenance experience , preferably in commercial properties.
• Strong working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building automation systems.
• Familiarity with energy management systems, practices, and operating procedures.
• Relevant trade licenses or certifications, as required, such as Journeyman or Master Electrician licenses, refrigeration certifications, EPA Universal Certification, high-pressure boiler licenses, or high-pressure steam operator licenses.
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and preventive maintenance skills.
• Ability to respond to emergencies and adapt to changing property needs.
