Job Summary As a Direct Support Professional I, you partner with a team of skilled professionals and families to provide family‑driven, youth‑guided, trauma‑informed, and culturally competent services. You create a safe, nurturing, and peaceful environment that supports the successful development of life skills and social skills for youth and families receiving services. Essential Job Functions Provide supervision and care to individuals served, assisting with daily living skills in accordance with program standards and safety and mandated reporting protocols. Develop, implement, monitor, and report on treatment objectives and modalities that support individuals’ goals, assessing the effectiveness of care plans. Build professional relationships with peers that support individual development and success. Provide purposeful activities based on the individual’s developmental level to foster skill development and prepare them for community transitions and interactions. Monitor emotional and behavioral status of participating individuals and document accordingly. Partner with the family‑driven treatment team to ensure decisions are made in the best interest of the youth. Complete required documentation according to established policies and regulations. Follow procedures for passing/administering medications. Maintain daily communication with staff to share relevant behaviors and concerns, including timely documentation and notifications to families and funders. Recognize escalated youth behavior and apply crisis prevention and intervention continuum, using de‑escalation skills, protective interventions, and physical restraints as needed. Promote participant learning through reflective practice in collaboration with the treatment team. Execute support tasks including transport for medical appointments, housekeeping duties, medication administration, and managing petty cash. Execute staff training initiatives. Transport youth as required. Perform additional duties as assigned. Education & Experience High School Diploma or GED required. Special Requirements Successful completion of Approved Medication Administrative Personnel (AMAP) training within one year. CPR certification required or obtained within 60 days of hire. Unrestricted, valid NYS driver’s license for a minimum of one year with a clean driving record and appropriate insurance coverage (preferred). Complete all required documentation promptly and according to policies. Recognize and address escalating and dysregulated youth behavior, employing SCIP and physical interventions as trained. Demonstrate problem‑solving, conflict resolution, and ethical professional conduct. Understand effective communication at all levels and recognize situations requiring notification. Physical Demands & Work Environment Must work variable scheduling, including evenings and weekends. Occupational physical demands: occasional sitting (up to 4 hours), standing (up to 1 hour), walking (up to 2.5 hours), driving (up to 8 hours), and continuous balancing (up to 8 hours). Occasional balancing, bending, stooping, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, running, and twisting (up to 2.5 hours). Weekly lifting up to 50 lbs. (incl. empty wheelchair) and daily 10‑15 lbs. loads. Weekly carrying up to 55 lbs. over 10‑100 ft. and daily 10‑15 lbs. loads. Manual dexterity required for fine manipulation skills (approximately 1‑2.5 hrs.). Occasional exposure to temperature changes, dust, fumes, gases, or chemicals. Appropriate protective clothing: closed‑toed shoes, protective shields, universal precaution PPE, and gloves for toileting and food preparation. Ability to change positions as needed. Special Considerations May be required to physically restrain clients weighing 50‑300 lbs. and guide them safely to the floor using SCIP approved techniques; restraints may last up to 15 minutes and repeat as necessary. $20.00 Minimum pay rate, $24.00 Maximum pay rate, based on experience.
