RN, Medical ICU - MGH

Job Overview We are currently looking for an experienced Registered Nurse to join our exceptional team in the Medical ICU (MICU) located at Blake 7. Nurses in the MICU care for a variety of complex respiratory and medical patients, including sepsis, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, hematology‑oncology, cardiac, neurology, and infectious diseases such as H1N1 (2005), suspect Ebola virus (2014) and the novel coronavirus (2020). The MICU culture is collaborative, patient‑centered and focused on staff professional development and excellence in nursing. The unit is the first and only critical care unit at MGH to receive the Beacon Award for Excellence from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) in 2021. Nurses may also volunteer for the hospital’s Biothreats Response Team and the MGH Global Disaster Relief team. Benefits Medical, dental, and vision insurance Tuition reimbursement Generous paid time off Subsidized MBTA pass (50% discount) Resources for childcare and emergency backup care Hospital‑paid retirement plan and tax‑shielded annuity plan Employee perks – discounts on tickets and passes for a range of leisure activities Qualifications BSN strongly preferred Minimum of 2 years of med/surg experience; ICU experience preferred Current licensure in Massachusetts as an RN ACLS and CCRN certifications preferred Must be able to work day/night rotations Strong patient care, staff development, and commitment to a diverse workforce are paramount Responsibilities Interpret the plan of medical care and assess patients’ clinical decision‑making regarding nursing care Ensure safe and competent delivery of nursing care, providing individualized nursing care and evaluating nursing care for groups of patients Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records Administer medications to patients and monitor for reactions or side effects Record patients’ medical information and vital signs Monitor, record, and report symptoms or changes in patients’ conditions Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patients’ responses and conditions Education & Licensure Associate’s Degree Nursing required; Bachelor’s Degree Nursing preferred. Clinical nursing experience minimum 2 years required. Current licensure in Massachusetts as an RN is required.
