RN Cardiac Step-Down

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) is responsible for providing specialized nursing care to cardiac step-down patients including heart catheterization recovery, cardiac drips, post-operative open-heart patients, and other cardiac/med-surgical step-down cases. The RN will deliver skilled nursing interventions, patient assessments, medication administration, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team. This role requires strong clinical expertise, effective communication, and flexibility to float to other units as needed. A minimum of three years' experience in cardiac step-down care and proficiency with Epic EMR are required. Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care to cardiac step-down patients including post-open heart surgery and heart cath recovery.
• Perform patient assessments, medication administration, and treatment planning.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare team members to optimize patient outcomes.
• Manage cardiac drips and monitor patient response closely.
• Document patient care accurately using Epic EMR system.
• Float to other units as needed during low census or staffing shortages.
• Provide care to ventilated patients in rare circumstances based on patient needs.
• Participate in weekend and holiday coverage as scheduled.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in the state of Ohio.
• Minimum of three (3) years cardiac step-down nursing experience.
• Experience with heart cath recovery, post-op open-heart patients, and cardiac drips.
• Proficiency with Epic Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
• Strong clinical assessment and medication administration skills.
• Ability to provide care for ventilated patients if required.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience in med-surgical step-down patient care.
• Previous experience floating between units.

Special Considerations:

• Shift is night shift from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, 36 hours per week.
• Typically works every 3rd weekend and covers one holiday, subject to change based on census and staffing.
• No routine on-call required; may be asked to take rare call days during census or staffing fluctuations.
• Comfortable caring for ventilated patients in rare situations.

Scheduling:

• Night shift schedule: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM.
• 36 hours per week.
• Weekend and holiday coverage approximately every third week.
• Shift assignments may be adjusted based on unit census and staffing needs.
