Civil Engineer II designs and supervises construction projects such as airports, bridges, channels, dams, railroads, and roads. Responsibilities also include estimating costs and personnel and material needs, preparing proposals and establishing completion dates. Being a Civil Engineer II requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. To be a Civil Engineer II typically requires 2 to 4 years of related experience. Gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.

Our company is looking for a Civil Engineer II to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered;
  • Performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer;
  • Prepares contractor pay requests;
  • Prepares engineering design drawings using field surveying data, reports, maps, drawings, and topographical and geologic data;
  • Prepares NPDES, AHTD, ADEQ, various railroad and other permits;
  • Utilize standard techniques, procedures, and criteria while gaining understanding of advanced methods;
  • Prepare plans, specifications and cost estimates;
  • Participate in a variety of design and construction engineering tasks in support of projects in the region;
  • Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests;
  • Identifies discrepancies in results;
  • Performs work in accordance with design standards, on-budget, and meets deadlines with limited supervision;
  • Able to self-check quality of work prior to submitting to the design lead for review and follow project quality control procedures;
  • Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures;
  • Able to identify discrepancies in results and propose approach to solve new problems encountered;
  • Coordinate with multiple disciplines including architects, mechanical and electrical engineers, structural engineers, and contractors.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, MicroStation and Inroads. Other engineering software experience is a plus;
  • Strong writing skills to support technical reporting as well as strong oral communication skills;
  • Experience with local DOTs or municipalities;
  • Engineer-in-Training Certification;
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies;
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment with the capability to delegate and supervise tasks;
  • PE license or ability to obtain it in two years or less.
