GIS Specialist Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a GIS Specialist to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Occasionally, participate in the acquisition of on-site field data to accomplish the design or to monitor and evaluate equipment performance;
- Perform tasks such as digitizing, copying and scanning of drawings, prints and maps;
- Perform and update records and maps in Arc Map;
- Utilize survey information and develop plans and maps;
- Process and approve completion records, perform manual or computer aided drafting using AutoCAD;
- Working with enterprise geodatabases, managing content and developing apps in portal for ArcGIS;
- Creating and maintaining Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) compliant metadata;
- Performs quality assurance on data deliverables received for inclusion in the GIS;
- Creates, analyzes, reports, converts or transfers data using esri GIS software;
- Meets with subject matter experts to discuss topics, such as technical specifications, customized solutions and operational problems;
- Participates in field data collection using Global Positioning Systems (GPS), laser scanning, or related technology;
- Formatting data to the Spatial Data Standards for Facilities, Infrastructure and Environment (SDSFIE);
- Supports the internal publication of standard map products and maintain, update and document GIS data standards/specifications;
- Conducting editing procedures in ArcMap;
- Under supervision from senior staff, contributes to the designing and programming of SDSFIE compliant databases.
Requirements:
- HTML;
- Knowledge of GPS, GIS, cartography, spatial analysis methods and other current technologies;
- Valid state driver’s license in good standing;
- Demonstrated ability to identify improvement opportunities and the initiative to implement change;
- Demonstrated ability to organize multiple projects and be self-led;
- Basic understanding of the follow development languages: Python;
- VBA;
- Able to travel for field work in one-week intervals across the nation, for up to 6 weeks per year;
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Geography, Geology, Environmental Science or a related field;
- Valid driver’s license;
- Plant identification experience, especially wetland species;
- Ability to pass background checks (SWCA) for placement;
- CSS;
- US Citizen based on need to obtaining a secret clearance;
- Experience with ESRI’s ArcGIS software suite.
