Principal Opto-Mechanical Engineer Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a Principal Opto-Mechanical Engineer to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Perform engineering analysis of: optics mounting strategies, detailed tolerance, manufacturability, and cost;
- Presenting, documenting and educating others regarding optics and mechanical architectural decisions made;
- Directing junior-level and assisting senior-level engineers on various projects;
- Skilled in the use of solid modeling CAD tools specifically SolidWorks. Experience in armored vehicles is a plus;
- Thermal/ structural analysis: use of FEA, specifically ANSYS Workbench;
- Responsible for working in a team to develop optics and related technologies as building blocks to enable next-generation architectures;
- Modeling and prototyping for next generation optical platforms;
- Work closely with NPI (New Product Introduction) to ensure smooth transition of design into volume manufacturing;
- Support evaluating and characterizing optical elements and mounts;
- Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing methods and conventions in accordance with ASME 14.5-2009.
Requirements:
- Proven Strong Analytical Skill and Hands on Skills;
- Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing methods and conventions in accordance with ASME 14.5-2009;
- Ability to work in a hands-on environment;
- Experience with optical analysis, including sequential and non-sequential analysis, using Zemax or equivalent tool;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Experience with ANSYS or Equivalent Tool;
- Strong interpersonal skills;
- Thermal/ structural analysis: use of FEA, specifically ANSYS Workbench;
- Minimum of 10 Years of Experience in opto-mechanical design;
- Strong background in mechanical engineering, optics, mounting of optical components and packaging;
- Skilled in the use of solid modeling CAD tools specifically SolidWorks. Experience in armored vehicles is a plus;
- Experience with Matlab or Python or equivalent tool;
- Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering (MSME) – Desired.
