Our company is looking for a Claims Assistant to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Works under general supervision and exercises a moderate level of discretion in performing duties of the position;
  • Responsible for handling sensitive and confidential matters and documents appropriately;
  • Accountable for performing assigned duties accurately and efficiently and in accordance with established company policies and departmental procedures;
  • Ability to perform essential functions of the job, with or without a reasonable accommodation;
  • Opens, date stamps, sorts and distributes incoming mail. Matches mail with files or faxes documents to Imaging Center to attach to electronic files;
  • Serves as administrative support for Catastrophe Storm Team which often requires travel away from home for an extended period of time;
  • Trains newly hired Claims Assistants. Maintains an instruction manual for Claims Assistant job responsibilities;
  • Performs other related duties as requested by the Branch Claims Supervisor or Branch Claims Manager;
  • Perform all file updates on system as directed by claim reps/team leader.

Requirements:

  • Identify coverage issues that arise on claims;
  • The opportunity to learn and support our customers with other service requests;
  • Educate our team/customers on industry claim trends;
  • Oversee claims on behalf of our customers;
  • Experience with Microsoft office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint);
  • Excellent typing skills;
  • Professional telephone demeanor and good oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member;
  • General knowledge of workers’ compensation claims procedures and policies;
  • Ability to pay attention to detail;
  • Excellent grammar, composition and proofreading skills;
  • Ability to work well under pressure and multi-task in a fast-paced environment;
  • Ability to take direction and make decisions;
  • Must demonstrate an aptitude for learning additional computer skills;
  • Good communication skills and effective telephone manner.
