Commercial Construction Estimator Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a Commercial Construction Estimator to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Maintaining Plan Room bid board, documents and website bid board;
- As needed, writing Scope of Work for subcontractors and overall estimate;
- Participating in transfer of data from the Estimating department to Accounting;
- Developing a detailed estimate template customized for each bid and performing take-offs and in-house pricing as required to assist with estimates;
- Reviewing subcontractor bids and determining if the bid is subject to special exclusions or reservations;
- Identifying and documenting qualifications and clarifications required for each bid;
- Developing and maintaining a Call Sheet for each bid and developing a Bid Invitation to be used for direct solicitation of bids;
- Write and submit RFI’s to the Engineer/Architect, etc. Distribute All RFI responses to the appropriate parties;
- Generate trade specific bid packages and distribute them to vendors and subcontractors;
- Managing multiple projects at once;
- Solicitation and coordination of sub-contractors while building relationships;
- Determine scopes of work / trade for initial estimates or when generating change orders;
- Analyzing bids for initial estimates or when generating change orders;
- Attending pre-bid, bid opening, pre-construction and coordination meetings as needed;
- Expertise in reading and preparing quantity take-off and scoping construction documents along with good computer skills.
Requirements:
- Degree in construction related field – recommended but not required;
- Strongly recommend having a varied/broad industry background;
- Must be able to relocate if needed;
- Must have good writing, communication, and presentation skills;
- B.S. Degree or higher in Engineering, Construction Management or similar applicable discipline is preferred;
- Ability to write, modify and collaborate on specific scopes of work;
- Experience estimating MEP systems preferred;
- Experience managing buyout process with success;
- Must have working knowledge of the subcontractor market in the Baltimore area;
- Experience handling multiple jobs / estimates at one time;
- Experience with Sage (Timberline) Estimating Extended software and PlanSwift take-off software;
- 7 years minimum of experience estimating for commercial and institutional construction projects between $2M – $50M;
- SmartBid or similar software experience is a plus.
