Our company is looking for a Construction Estimator to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Effectively bid out projects and obtain hard costs;
  • As needed, writing Scope of Work for subcontractors and overall estimate;
  • Prepare estimates on all projects assigned;
  • Review large bids with President/ Vice President or Project Manager responsible for the respective account;
  • Download floor plans and uses a software system(Callidus, AutoDesk, CAD, etc) to measure plans accurately and do take-offs;
  • Sets up Bid Day Summaries and General Requirements;
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus;
  • Directs Plans Coordinators for vendor/subcontractor pricing/bid solicitation and coordination using SmartBidnet;
  • Sets up bid spreadsheets or conceptual spreadsheets to complete a bid;
  • Evaluate projects for constructability and value-engineer cost savings;
  • Reads and outlines project specifications;
  • Conduct interviews with subcontractors as part of project leveling and scoping;
  • Develop and enhance owner, architect, subcontractor and vendor relations;
  • Manage the allocation of work hours for staff assigned to project to ensure it is within budgetary guidelines;
  • Analyze cost data, unit prices, and information that can be developed and used as a “rule of thumb” for all building systems estimated costs.

Requirements:

  • Industrial paint knowledge is a plus;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Good verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work with others as part of a team;
  • Bachelor’s Degree is required, in a related field preferred;
  • B.S. Degree or higher in Engineering, Construction Management or similar applicable discipline is preferred;
  • General construction experience and previous estimating experience are pluses;
  • A sense of urgency and the ability to multi-task;
  • Travel to proposed jobsites and attended pre-bid conferences;
  • Must have working knowledge of the subcontractor market in the Baltimore area;
  • Completing take-offs from plans and specifications to gather information for bids;
  • Strategic planner;
  • Ability to work as a team on projects as well as take initiative and work alone;
  • Must be able to use strategic and innovative methods to obtain sub coverage for bids, especially in new geographic areas;
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
