Construction Estimator Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a Construction Estimator to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Effectively bid out projects and obtain hard costs;
- As needed, writing Scope of Work for subcontractors and overall estimate;
- Prepare estimates on all projects assigned;
- Review large bids with President/ Vice President or Project Manager responsible for the respective account;
- Download floor plans and uses a software system(Callidus, AutoDesk, CAD, etc) to measure plans accurately and do take-offs;
- Sets up Bid Day Summaries and General Requirements;
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus;
- Directs Plans Coordinators for vendor/subcontractor pricing/bid solicitation and coordination using SmartBidnet;
- Sets up bid spreadsheets or conceptual spreadsheets to complete a bid;
- Evaluate projects for constructability and value-engineer cost savings;
- Reads and outlines project specifications;
- Conduct interviews with subcontractors as part of project leveling and scoping;
- Develop and enhance owner, architect, subcontractor and vendor relations;
- Manage the allocation of work hours for staff assigned to project to ensure it is within budgetary guidelines;
- Analyze cost data, unit prices, and information that can be developed and used as a “rule of thumb” for all building systems estimated costs.
Requirements:
- Industrial paint knowledge is a plus;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
- Good verbal and written communication skills;
- Ability to work with others as part of a team;
- Bachelor’s Degree is required, in a related field preferred;
- B.S. Degree or higher in Engineering, Construction Management or similar applicable discipline is preferred;
- General construction experience and previous estimating experience are pluses;
- A sense of urgency and the ability to multi-task;
- Travel to proposed jobsites and attended pre-bid conferences;
- Must have working knowledge of the subcontractor market in the Baltimore area;
- Completing take-offs from plans and specifications to gather information for bids;
- Strategic planner;
- Ability to work as a team on projects as well as take initiative and work alone;
- Must be able to use strategic and innovative methods to obtain sub coverage for bids, especially in new geographic areas;
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
