Intermediate Accountant Job Description

The Intermediate Accountant ensures the accuracy of entries to ledger accounts and reconciles subsidiary ledger accounts to the general ledger. Maintains financial records and ensures that financial transactions are properly recorded. Being an Intermediate Accountant analyzes current costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict future revenues and expenses. Prepares balance sheets, profit and loss statements and other financial reports. In addition, Intermediate Accountant requires a bachelor’s degree. May require eligibility to sit for CPA exam. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Being an Intermediate Accountant gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Working as an Intermediate Accountant typically requires 2 to 4 years of related experience.

Our company is looking for a Intermediate Accountant to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare specialized reports and analysis including indirect rate analysis;
  • Prepare a multitude of reports for financial, tax, and regulatory purposes;
  • Perform monthly construction and retirement AFE closings on multiple companies, which include the unitization of assets for both FERC and GAAP;
  • Prepare monthly invoices;
  • Examine assigned accounting documents to verify accuracy of computations and uniform application of policies, procedures and acceptable accounting;
  • Prepare account reconciliations;
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP;
  • Reconcile Oracle Fixed Assets system to the General Ledger on a monthly basis;
  • Perform monthly volumetric allocations, invoicing of revenues and/or payment of cost of goods sold invoices;
  • Analyze revenue and explain variances between current month, prior month and budget;
  • Prepare inventory reconciliations and analyze and clear reconciling items;
  • Prepare various volumetric balancing and analytical reports;
  • Performs routine to moderate journal entries and other accounting activities using existing procedures and practical knowledge gained from experience;
  • Prepares and reviews moderate audit and/or tax work papers;
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Requirements:

  • Time management, detailed-oriented, and organized, with ability to multi-task;
  • Effective written and oral communication skills within all levels of the organization are required;
  • Thorough understanding of accounting and industry concepts, practices, and procedures;
  • A minimum of 2 – 4 years of accounting experience is preferred;
  • Basic knowledge of GAAP and capitalization rules is required;
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and Word;
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required;
  • Experience working with Oracle Financial Systems is a plus;
  • Ability to analyze and make judgments as to the accuracy of accounting data;
  • Working knowledge of Deltek Costpoint, or similar accounting software preferred;
  • Accounting/Finance experience in the field of Government Contracting required;
  • CPA preferred;
  • Working knowledge of DCAA principles;
  • Performs other duties as assigned;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite.
