Senior Construction Estimator Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a Senior Construction Estimator to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Reviewing subcontractor bids and determining if the bid is subject to special exclusions or reservations;
- Maintaining Plan Room bid board, documents and website bid board;
- As needed, writing Scope of Work for subcontractors and overall estimate;
- Participating in transfer of data from the Estimating department to Accounting;
- Identifying and documenting qualifications and clarifications required for each bid;
- Developing and maintaining a Call Sheet for each bid and developing a Bid Invitation to be used for direct solicitation of bids;
- Develop and enhance owner, architect, subcontractor and vendor relations;
- Work in conjunction with Operations to ensure that detailed General Conditions/Requirements estimates are prepared, and review with others as needed;
- Manage the allocation of work hours for staff assigned to project to ensure it is within budgetary guidelines;
- Responsible for the value engineering process during preconstruction for the assigned projects;
- Analyze cost data, unit prices, and information that can be developed and used as a “rule of thumb” for all building systems estimated costs;
- Review quantity take-offs, analysis, estimate, and studies for all items incorporated in the assigned scope;
- Lead Scope Reconciliation Meetings at which Estimators work to eliminate scope gaps and overlaps;
- Communicate and collaborate with Operations during pre construction efforts;
- Occasionally performing Project Manager responsibilities for smaller scale projects.
Requirements:
- B.S. Degree or higher in Engineering, Construction Management or similar applicable discipline is preferred;
- Ability to write, modify and collaborate on specific scopes of work;
- Experience managing buyout process with success;
- Experience estimating MEP systems preferred;
- Experience with Sage (Timberline) Estimating Extended software and PlanSwift take-off software;
- Must have working knowledge of the subcontractor market in the Baltimore area;
- Experience handling multiple jobs / estimates at one time;
- 7 years minimum of experience estimating for commercial and institutional construction projects between $2M – $50M;
- SmartBid or similar software experience is a plus;
- Knowledgeable in MEP divisions specifically as well as SOE work for ground-up concrete construction;
- Ability to provide conceptual budgeting and constructability analysis;
- At minimum 5 years’ experience in construction cost estimating;
- Full knowledge of CSI divisional cost codes, best building practices, and construction methodology;
- Highly skilled in reading, understanding and accurately interpreting specifications and drawings.
