State and Local Tax Manager Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a State and Local Tax Manager to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Manage state income/franchise tax audits;
- Identify opportunities and risks and make recommendations to manage tax liability;
- Deliver profitable SALT services to our clients;
- Research and resolve technical issues;
- Proficient knowledge of ASC 740 and ability to review income tax accrual calculations;
- Review complex consolidated and standalone corporate state income/franchise tax returns;
- Assist in preparation of quarterly income;
- Review tax provisions on audit and review engagements;
- Lead best practices in the billing and collection process;
- Manage tax assignments and related projects;
- Conduct complex state tax research and draft/review technical memorandums;
- Focus on the development and growth of SALT projects;
- Manage multiple client engagements, engagement teams and staff;
- Review work papers and tax returns;
- Develop and maintain client relationships.
Requirements:
- Excellent communication skills;
- Time Management – ability to prioritize workload and manage one’s own time;

- Working knowledge of US GAAP and ASC 740;
- Acts as a business partner – collaborative mindset, can articulate complex issues and regulations to business leaders;
- Proficiency in MS Excel and Oracle Hyperion Financial Management;
- Strong attention to detail and sense of URGENCY;
- Knowledge of state and local income tax and sales and use tax;
- Technical background – professional with a demonstrated ability to lead a technical area.
