Billing and Collections Specialist Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a Billing and Collections Specialist to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with shared drive;
- Maintaining Excel spreadsheets;
- Preparation of quotes, invoices and other financial documents;
- Other duties as assigned;
- Work with providers to correct the diagnosis or procedure codes so that the claim can be processed;
- Work with other offices to obtain necessary information to get claims processed;
- Work with patients and guarantors to secure payment on outstanding account balances;
- Other duties may be assigned;
- Update the patient account record to identify actions taken on the account;
- Review all remittance advices for accuracy to identify errors or questionable data;
- Write appeals and include supporting documentation;
- Identify problem accounts and escalate as appropriate;
- Identify coding or billing problems from EOBs and work to correct the errors in a timely manner;
- Sort and file correspondence;
- Works with Rebate Accounting to identify issues to payment collection and reconciliation.
Requirements:
- Possess a High School diploma/GED or higher (completed and verified prior to start);
- Comprehensive wound etiology understanding as it pertains to the 3M appeals process and Medicare process;
- Comprehensive knowledge of Insurance Appeals process;
- One (1) year of experience in Medicare appeals in a private, public, government, or military environment;
- Possess a High School Diploma/GED or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution;
- Experience in using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook);
- Two (2) years of experience in medical collections in a private, public, government, or military environment;
- 6+ months of experience in a billing or collections environment;
- Proficiency in English;
- Microsoft Access experience;
- Two years experience in a billing role, preferably medical billing; collections experience a plus;
- SQL experience;
- Bachelor’s degree;
- Sufficient knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook);
- Prior work experience in a revenue cycle management role.
