Clinical Medical Assistant Job Description

Clinical medical assistants have different duties, depending on the state where they work. They may do basic laboratory tests, dispose of contaminated supplies, and sterilize medical instruments. They may have additional responsibilities, such as instructing patients about medication or special diets, preparing patients for x rays, removing stitches, drawing blood, or changing dressings.

Our company is looking for a Clinical Medical Assistant to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Counseling and education of patients is provided according to PPMNJ guidelines;
  • Cleans, disinfects and sterilizes instruments;
  • Provides administrative and clinical support including, but not limited to, the following at the health center (clinic);
  • Maintains accurate medical and financial records that conform to the electronic health records workflows;
  • Cleans/disinfects exam rooms and lab;
  • Tracks patient’s time in the clinic via the Patient Activity Tracker;
  • Taking medical histories;
  • Registers patients at the front window;
  • Enters all financial transactions for the visit in the EMR system Billing Module;
  • Collects and documents all co-pays and fee for service monies in EMR systems;
  • Advising on treatment plans;
  • Preparing lab specimens, performing basic lab tests, sterilizing medical equipment;
  • Dispenses over the counter contraceptive supplies;
  • Customer Service;
  • Performs as Patient Services Representative, as needed.

Requirements:

  • Experience in Occupational Medicine clinic, General Medical, Internal Medicine work environment preferred;
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of the importance of teamwork and staff satisfaction;
  • Vital signs, patient assessment;
  • Medical Assistant Certification/Registration or meet state requirements;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are essential;
  • Must be detail-oriented, organized and a good multi-tasker with the ability to work under pressure;
  • CPR certification required;
  • High school degree or completion of GED required;
  • Phlebotomy;
  • Associate degree in Medical Assisting and/or graduation from an accredited vocational Medical Assistant program, and/or military equivalent;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Medication Administration;
  • Accuracy/attention to detail;
  • Completion of Medical Assisting Program required;
  • Minimum of 1 year of qualified work experience within medical field desired.
