L&D (Labor and Delivery) RN (Registered Nurse) Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a L&D (Labor and Delivery) RN (Registered Nurse) to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver high quality patient care through training and experience in Obstetrics and Level One Nursery, according to the Obstetrics Scope of Service;
- Provide care with a focus on patient safety;
- Collaborate with physicians and other nurses to assess mother and baby during the perinatal period to develop a specific care plan;
- Ability to scrub and/or circulate in the event of an emergency cesarean section;
- Prioritize patient needs and cope well with a fast-paced environment;
- Carries out physician orders;
- The RN is involved in direct and indirect patient care;
- Instructs and educates patients and families;
- Administers prescribed medications, changes dressings, cleans wounds, monitors vital signs;
- In collaboration with other health team members, follows the philosophy, policies and goals of the facility and department;
- Assesses and coordinates patient’s discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team;
- The RN provides direction to licensed vocational nurses (LVNs) and other non-licensed nursing personnel in providing direct patient care;
- The staff nurse supports the medical care of patients under the direction of the Medical Staff pursuant to the objectives of the hospital;
- Provides age and culturally appropriate care;
- Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Requirements:
- Must have Advanced Fetal Monitoring training and certification must be obtained prior to completing orientation and independent assignment;
- AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring required;
- Must have a minimum of one (1) year experience in a Labor and Delivery Department;
- Must have BLS and ACLS certifications from American Heart Association approved courses;
- Candidates must have successfully completed an accredited nursing program;
- Texas RN licensure or compact license with the ability to obtain permanent license in Texas;
- Graduated from an accredited school with Bachelors of Science in Nursing;
- Current certification as a BLS healthcare upon hire by American Heart Association;
- Must have a California RN license, or have one in process;
- Candidates must have Advanced Fetal Monitoring Certificate and then AWHONN Fetal Monitoring;
- National Specialty Certification highly preferred;
- 2-3 years of Labor and Delivery experience required;
- Current ACLS or within 3 months of hire issued by American Heart Association;
- Candidates must have successfully completed an accredited RN program;
- Must have NRP certification.
