Medical Billing and Coding Specialist Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a Medical Billing and Coding Specialist to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Communicate with Clinical and Operational staff about implications of payer rejections;
- Review proposed procedure code and related information to ensure that it meets published guidelines;
- Generate weekly and monthly reports on submitted claims and claim status;
- Ensure that claims have complete diagnosis and procedure information to satisfy payer requirements;
- Provide visibility through reporting to Finance colleagues on revenue, accounts receivable, and cash collection and triage any issues that arise;
- Communicate with Clinical staff about missing or inconsistent information for claims submission process;
- Collaborate with Technology colleagues on claims generated through submitted documentation by clinical staff;
- Use athenahealth EHR to finalize and submit claims;
- Analyze and respond to payer rejections, gathering more information as required to resubmit claims.
Requirements:
- Outstanding attention to detail and excellent time management skills;
- Experience with Medicare, insurances, claims, appeals;
- 5 plus years experience in ICD-9 or 2 plus in ICD-10;
- MUST have DME experience;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Ability to work independently and to work collaboratively on projects;
- Certifications in related field(s);
- Ability to recognize individual and system problems and to communicate such information to the supervisor;
- Outstanding communication skills;
- Ability to work with proprietary information, PHI, ePHI, etc., while maintaining confidentiality at all times;
- Knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT codes and procedures;
- Extensive experience in Microsoft Office Suites;
- Ability to interface with management and co-workers;
- MUST have experience in Bright Tree;
- Outstanding computer skills with billing software, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel, able to learn our system, good typing skills.
