Litigation Paralegal Job Description

Litigation paralegals maintain documents received from clients, conduct research for lawyers, retrieve and organize evidence for use at depositions and trials, and draft settlement agreements. Some litigation paralegals may also help coordinate the logistics of attending a trial, including reserving office space, transporting exhibits and documents to the courtroom, and setting up computers and other equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Communicate efficiently and professionally with clients and colleagues;
  • Work effectively in a team oriented environment;
  • Compile mediation, hearing and arbitration notebooks;
  • Creating/organizing, binders, and exhibits;
  • Must possess strong organizational skills and ability to work in a fast paced environment;
  • Participate in document collection, discovery requests and organization related to litigation matters;
  • Proficient in all aspects of trial preparation;
  • Maintaining organization and using our Case Management software to effectively manage all cases;
  • Proficient in scheduling and coordinating depositions, mediations and hearings;
  • Provide consistent high quality customer service to both internal and external customers;
  • Gather relevant information from a variety of sources;
  • Assembling pleading binders and minute books;
  • Tracking court deadlines;
  • Assist with depositions, including preparation of witness files, exhibits, notices and subpoenas, and deposition summaries; and;
  • Drafting and proofreading legal documents, correspondence, and memoranda.

Requirements:

  • Experience with Adobe Pro and MS Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint;
  • Ability to undertake complex projects;
  • Strong computer skills with proficient in MS Office Suite and document management systems;
  • ABA Paralegal Certificate;
  • Maintain files on litigation and employment matters;
  • Proficient in scheduling and coordinating depositions, mediations and hearings;
  • 5 years of litigation support experience as a Paralegal or Legal Specialist at a law firm or in-house legal department;
  • Must possess strong organizational skills and ability to work in a fast paced environment;
  • Proficient in all aspects of trial preparation;
  • Creating/organizing, binders, and exhibits;
  • Experience in trial preparation and assistance at trial;
  • Legal research experience with Westlaw and/or LexisNexis;
  • The ability to manage document reviews and productions, including bates numbering and logging productions;
  • Strong written skills needed to compose legal documents Ability to handle and respond to sensitive and confidential information;
  • Superior organizational and multi-tasking skills.
