Optical Engineer Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a Optical Engineer to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Working knowledge of thin film physics and fabrication;
- Use measurement science expertise to design validation protocols to demonstrate user requirements are met;
- Oversees the day-to-day development activities of the design team in support of the project manager’s work plan;
- Presents results at project reviews and technical conferences;
- Manages engineering team efforts related to the study, development, and test of hardware, data system components, or equipment;
- Designs or directs the development of unique or leading-edge technology, hardware, equipment, or systems to meet specific mission requirements;
- Performs additional data systems and analysis work as required;
- Design and develop improved subsystems for next generation Doppler lidar.
Requirements:
- Experience with modeling and simulation methodologies to the design and development of electronic and optical equipment and instrumentation;
- Demonstrated capability to communicate technical information both orally and in written form;
- Understanding of laboratory techniques;
- Master’s Degree in an applicable field from an ABET accredited university;
- Understanding of basic optical principals and basic mechanical principals;
- Proficiency in Optical design software Zemax and/or Code V;
- Strong working knowledge of lasers, ultraviolet sensors, and radio-frequency sensors;
- Must have a valid driver’s license;
- Be a U.S. Citizen and must possess, or be able to obtain and maintain, a Secret Security Clearance;
- Motivated, self-starter;
- Optical system alignment and testing (EFL, MTF, etc.);
- Optical component testing (Spectral transmission, etc.);
- Imaging systems;
- Straylight analysis;
- Lens design and tolerancing.
