The Director of Engineering ensures all engineering projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with organization’s established policies and objectives. Plans and directs all aspects of engineering activities and projects within an organization. Being a Director of Engineering incorporates components, materials, and tools that result in cost-effective and quality output. Utilizes best practice engineering methods and provides expert technical guidance for engineering initiatives. In addition, Director of Engineering manages overall engineering budget and costs. Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline. Typically reports to top management. The Director of Engineering manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Our company is looking for a Director of Engineering to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Experience in managing utility systems;
  • Be a technology domain expert (search database technology, security, data science, data analytics, server side technology, and/or DevOps);
  • Present technical concepts, challenges, and solutions to non-technical stakeholders clearly and concisely;
  • Recruits additional engineering staff as needed;
  • Provide knowledge of professional software engineering best practices;
  • Own 3rd party software and services contracts;
  • Manage construction, design, and vendor relationships for projects and renovations;
  • Supervise functions of engineering employees and manage workflow;
  • Providing training and assistance to Engineering personnel in the execution of Engineering Program Plans (EPPs);

  • Participate and lead sprint and stand-up process alongside the technology management team;
  • This new platform will focus on retail and eCommerce products;
  • Collaborating and working with vendors.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with people of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds;
  • Experience working with scalable API frameworks;
  • Strong career coach and advocate for ensuring everyone on the team is happy, engaged, and challenged;
  • 5+ years’ of experience in Agile/SCRUM methodology, specifically leveraging tools like Jira, Confluence;
  • 8+ years in technical management, leading the definition and development of scalable systems;
  • Ability to define the short-term and long-term technical vision and strategy for the team;
  • Experience with recommendation technology (machine learning) preferred but not required;
  • Experience building Enterprise software;
  • Experience leading small to medium sized technology teams;
  • Solid understanding of electronic theory and capability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair a wide variety of electronic equipment and systems;
  • Read, write, speak and understand English;
  • Labor relations experience is a plus;
  • HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boiler operations and general maintenance skills required;
  • Prior knowledge of RF concepts and architectures;
