Merchandising Director directs and develops merchandising plans and operational systems to achieve financial objectives and to deliver assortments that meet customer and distribution needs. Utilizes sales and trend analytics to develop strategies for different merchandise categories and to optimize product assortments. Being a Merchandising Director develops merchandise plans and pricing that support key strategic initiatives, launches, top sellers, seasonal campaigns and trends. May partner with other functions to manage vendor relationships, identify new vendors, and negotiate favorable contract terms. Additionally, Merchandising Director requires a bachelor’s degree. Typically reports to top management. The Merchandising Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Merchandising Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.

  • Forecast and respond favorably to emerging consumer buying behaviors;

  • Manage 1 of 3 major HW suppliers/ DLC/ or Business future categories ( Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft);
  • Manage Purchases and CO-OP collection daily and attain Yearly Goals set by Dept;
  • Select, direct, develop, and discipline team members; coach and mentor employees and provide ongoing performance feedback;
  • Utilize industry connections to source unique and exclusive product assortments;

  • Foster an environment that welcomes change and that promotes high levels of ingenuity and creative thinking, risk tolerance, and collaboration;
  • Set challenging objectives and communicate expectations. Manage productivity ranking and improve team’s performance;

  • Partner with other senior leaders to build the overall capability of the merchandising team;
  • Provide guidance, set priorities, and assist direct reports with assigned tasks;
  • Drive strategic development, including visual merchandising and marketing;
  • Develop appropriate financial models, budgets, and business plans when requested.

Requirements:

  • Expert knowledge of merchandising logistics and distribution;
  • Proficient organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple, overlapping, and potentially conflicting priorities;
  • Ability to understand and apply expert knowledge of GameStop’s business strategy;
  • Proficient ability to remain highly effective under stress, and respond to pressure in a manner acceptable to others and to the organization;
  • Expert knowledge of direct-to-consumer and/or business-to-business sales;
  • Demonstrated commitment to building a diverse team that reflects our widely diverse customer base;
  • At least 5 years of merchandising experience required, with three or more years in a significant leadership role;
  • Accredited bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or related field required.
