Senior Medical Director Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a Senior Medical Director to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Managed markets/care experience a plus not required;
- Staff management experience a plus;
- Expected to oversee/manage and serve as a mentor to scientific associates and associate medical directors;
- Knowledge of clinical trial study design, health outcomes research, pharmacoeconomics and epidemiology a plus;
- MD, PhD, or PharmD with medical advertising or communications agency experience preferred;
- Excellent verbal, writing, presentation, and editing skills;
- Ability to translate complex data into compelling messages and concepts;
- Therapeutic areas preferred: MS, Oncology, Respiratory;
- Self-starter with little need for constant direction;
- Act as an opinion leader and initiate new relationships to drive appropriate communication strategies and content;
- Ability to deliver quick turnaround on a variety of tasks;
- Understanding and communicating provider performance/compensation plans;
- Quality Improvement;
- Clinical Compliance & Policy Development;
- Providing managed care perspective to medical directors as they lead their teams.
Requirements:
- Strong organizational, problem solving, and project management skills;
- Expertise in overseeing a wide range of complex projects within a team structure;
- An advanced degree such as MD or PhD and 4+ years experience work within Industry or Agency;
- Self-motivated and enthusiastic;
- Strong medical background (MD, PharmD, or PhD required);
- Management experience and the ability to mentor and guide others;
- Ability to work independently and cross-functionally with minimal supervision;
- Ability to interpret data, develop key insights and assess the impact of recommendations on client business objectives;
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, highly detail-oriented environment;
- Ability to interpret data and to provide pharmaceutical clients with strategic/scientific direction;
- Strong written and communication skills, comfortability speaking with clients and healthcare professionals;
- Ability and willingness to travel (typically once or twice a month for client events/meetings;
- 3-6 years of relevant agency experience is a must – preferably both promotion and medical education;
- Advanced degree in life sciences, PhD, PharmD is preferred. MD or DO will be considered with relevant experience;
- Ability to provide independent medical direction.
