VP of Engineering Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a VP of Engineering to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Connect engineering vision and goals to the company’s vision and goals and communicate them widely;
- Create and apply engineering-specific development expectations; use these to provide regular feedback;
- Reorganize and effectively manage change as needed to best fit with the business needs;
- Instill a hiring culture on the team, including adhering to the hiring process and maintaining a high bar;
- Plan and build the team’s capabilities;
- Innovate and experiment to optimize team output;
- Collaborate with other department heads;
- Collaborate with Chief People Officer on compensation and employee rewards;
- Communicate plans, challenges, and updates to other functional heads;
- Achieve results and hold teams accountable to deliver on their own goals;
- Represent the Engineering team as a member of the Operating Team;
- Develop the capabilities and leadership skills of the people in the product development organization;
- Provide mentorship and guidance to members of the Engineering team;
- Lead recruiting efforts to add world-class engineering talent to the team;
- Developing and maintaining the 2U global software engineering retention, recruitment and training program (25%).
Requirements:
- Experience as a member of the executive management team. Experience reporting to CEO is a plus;
- Experience with SaaS cloud solutions;
- Success in rapid iterative software development environments;
- Previous experience with payments application (Square, Paypal, Venmo) development and a plus;
- BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Software Development, Electrical Engineering or a related area;
- 2+ of engineering management experience;
- Familiarity with public key infrastructure protection mechanism, HSM technology and cryptographic protocols;
- Strong problem-solving ability and ability to quickly pick up new knowledge;
- Ability to nurture and build out the engineering team;
- 4+ years of full stack engineering experience;
- Interest in the cryptocurrency and blockchain space;
- High level product knowledge of the Avalanche Protocol and what makes it unique.
