VP of Product Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a VP of Product to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Reinforce continuous innovation and a safe-to-fail environment where it’s okay to take chances, while also mitigating business-threatening risks;
- Develop and evaluate new product ideas and opportunities, as well as improve existing products and features;
- Bring a firm grasp of quality product design/user experience to the overall product strategy;
- Facilitate product development, from inception to full-scale commercialization;
- Own product roadmap and ensure it’s aligned with business strategy and growth initiatives;
- Guide product placement and pricing strategies;
- Define the product strategy and roadmap;
- Keeping the quantitative and qualitative learning transparent;
- Leverage data from various sources to holistically understand and relentlessly improve product performance;
- This product manager must educate the sales team for new product launches and be their partner when engaging customers;
- It is important to get engineers excited about the new project they are about to build;
- Advocate for and represent the product team within the greater organization;
- True ownership of the vision, OKRs, backlog;
- Research the advertising market to find opportunities that fit the company’s strategy;
- Consult with the business team on any new product ideas to ensure alignment.
Requirements:
- Technical background or extensive experience with technical side of product development process;
- Deep understanding of product development process end-to-end;
- Mission driven orientation, believer in innovation, and authentic alignment with Petal’s goal of making credit honest, simple, and accessible;
- Leadership, ownership, self-motivation, and drive to deliver results in dynamic, ever-changing environments;
- Comfort in a fast-changing start-up environment. Ability to build a business and function in ambiguity;
- Excellent quantitative, written and verbal communication skills, including executive level presentations;

- Track record of having led product org with multiple product teams successfully;
- Experience having worked at scale but willing and excited to be a player-coach while necessary;
- Strong technology background, including understanding of technical capabilities on mobile and web platforms;
- Experience presenting to executive audiences, including Boards of Directors;
- Demonstrated experience developing use case requirements and translating them into product specifications;
- Experience building product development best practices and drawing clarity around product development tools and process.
