Senior Medical Editor Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a Senior Medical Editor to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Establishes solid working relationships with all internal brand team and department members;
- Provides backup to other members of the Editorial department, including the Editorial Manager, Group Editorial Supervisor, and Director;
- Ensures the quality of format and visual quality of layout;
- Manages all aspects of assigned accounts without need for daily supervision;
- Assists as a training resource for freelance or newer employees;
- Attends status and kickoff meetings for all assigned accounts; participates in the development of timelines when appropriate;
- Accurately tracks time spent on each job and enters in time-tracking system on a daily basis;
- Creates and maintains comprehensive style guides for all assigned accounts;
- Promotes collaborative approach among team members by taking the initiative in establishing and maintaining the flow of communications;
- Keeps the Editorial Supervisor or Group Editorial Supervisor abreast of workload/workflow and status of assigned accounts as needed.
Requirements:
- Knowledge of all proofing and editing symbols;
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (eg, English or Life Sciences) is required;
- Proficient in AMA style and FDA rules and regulations;
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal communication skills;
- Ability to ensure scientific accuracy by fact-checking all relevant copy;
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (ie, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook);
- Ability to copyedit, proofread, and fact-check;
- Stickler for accuracy and perfectionism—relentless attention to detail;
- 5/+ years’ experience in medical editing within a pharmaceutical agency or Client setting;
- Familiarity with FDA regulations re promotional copy of prescription drugs;
- Competency in current and relevant computer-related technologies (eg, Word, PowerPoint, Acrobat, digital routing);
- Fluency in review of digital/interactive/tablet PC tactics as well as print;
- 5 years of experience in a pharmaceutical advertising agency environment;
- Excellent interpersonal skills;
- Knowledge of AMA style and FDA guidelines.
