Grocery Clerk Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a Grocery Clerk to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Stocks shelves, dairy case and other areas of the department;
- Display a friendly and outgoing attitude through good eye contact and body language;
- Respond to customer questions in an effective manner;
- Fills customer orders by obtaining items from shelves, freezers, coolers, bins, tables, or containers;
- Rotates stock to assure high quality, fresh merchandise at all times;
- Monitors pull dates on all Grocery merchandise;
- Accurately prices all merchandise by stamping, marking, or placing shelf tags/signs;
- Maintains a clean & safe work area at all times. Keeps aisles free of cardboard and overstock merchandise;
- Follow safety and sanitation procedures to ensure quality service and products for our customers;
- This position is applicable to the following departments: Meat, Seafood, Bakery, Deli, Grocery;
- Building rapport with customers;
- Required to operate a cash register following established policies and procedures;
- Assures daily price changes are done accurately & completed before store opens; maintaining price integrity at all times;
- Frequently lift and /or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds;
- Occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
Requirements:
- Ability to handle stressful situations;
- Effective communication skills;
- Knowledge of basic math;
- Must be 18 or older;
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment;
- Sound judgement/decision making skills;
- Basic math skills (counting, addition, and subtraction);
- You possess good listening and communication skills;
- Ability to stay calm while working in a fast-paced environment;
- You are detail-oriented and organized;
- No experience is necessary; on the job training is provided;
- Posses the ability to handle high stress and volume of customers while maintaining a positive shopping experience for the customer;
- Thorough understanding of all safety requirements and company safety policies, including proper lifting techniques and box cutter safety;
- Good oral and written communication skills and the ability to handle a diverse crew in a stressful environment.
