About the Role

The RN (Velocity Care) consistently delivers the best care and customer service to patients, demonstrating respect, dignity, kindness, and empathy. As part of the healthcare team, the RN has primary accountability for nursing coordination and provision of individualized care for patients of all ages, utilizing delegation and critical‑thinking skills to deliver quality service through a team‑oriented, collaborative approach.

Responsibilities

Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care to achieve optimum outcomes for patients of all ages.

Complete age‑specific admission and ongoing assessments, document them, and use them to develop a plan of care.

Collaborate with healthcare team members, patients, and families to implement and revise an age‑specific interdisciplinary plan of care.

Accurately administer and document treatments and medications using automated computer systems, including electronic medical records.

Identify and incorporate patient/family (caregiver) educational needs into the care plan, implementing and documenting them appropriately.

Contribute to Carilion Clinic's performance‑improvement activities.

Advocate for patients, protect their rights, and provide psychological, social, and cultural support.

Apply knowledge of growth and development to appropriately care for patients served.

Perform within clinical, leadership, and/or educational pathways to support evidenced‑based, quality patient care and performance improvement.

Exhibit clinical expertise in rapidly changing circumstances.

Plan strategies to reduce length of stay, turnaround time, and resource consumption while improving patient outcomes.

Serve as a role model for clinical practice to coworkers, students, and physicians.

Manage resources, establish priorities, and modify the environment to meet patient care needs.

Complete manager/director‑predetermined projects within specified time frames and according to established guidelines.

Facilitate resolution of patient and employee situations that occur in the work area.

Participate in new‑hire orientation.

Provide feedback to staff using appropriate communication and documentation.

Provide input into practice, environment, and work issues by participating on unit, hospital, or system activities that facilitate staff participation and input in decision‑making.

Assist in providing educational activities for the unit/department.

Qualifications

Graduate of a school of professional nursing (BSN preferred).

Preferred: 1 year of RN experience.

Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia or a new graduate eligible to sit for the Virginia licensure exam.

AHA BLS‑HCP required.

Keyboarding skills and computer literacy required for automated computer systems, including electronic medical records.
