Full Time Lead Veterinarian

Lead a small established clinic without corporate overhead. You became a vet because you loved animals and wanted to improve their lives — and somewhere along the way you found yourself staring at a production dashboard, upselling dental packages, and explaining to a district manager why your average transaction was down 4%. Muirfield Pet Clinic has served the neighborhood in Madison, Wisconsin for over twenty years. When its founding veterinarian retired, he passed the clinic to Precision Veterinary — an independent practice that's been a few miles away for eight years. We're now hiring the primary veterinarian for the Muirfield location: a chance to run your own clinic, your way, with an established team down the road for support and mentorship if you want it.

You like talking to pet owners, teaching them something about their animal they didn't know, and seeing families and patients grow up together. You recognize that over 99% of a pet's life happens outside the clinic, you take pride in watching people become better pet owners, and you've never been comfortable with the idea that a sick animal is a sales opportunity.

You're the first and primary veterinarian at our satellite clinic. The satellite is a few miles from our main clinic, where an established team — including one of the area's most respected surgeons — backs you up with surgical support, consults, and coverage.

An experienced practice manager handles the business and operations side — so you're the medical authority without the business-management overhead.

General small-animal wellness: preventive care, vaccines, diagnostics, dentals, minor procedures, ongoing case management — with surgical cases supported by the main clinic.

Over eight years, Precision Veterinary has built relationships with more than 150 area rescues and shelters and provided the care behind 60,000+ adoptions, covering millions in medical costs along the way. The people who own this practice are the people who work in it — and they have no interest in leaving, selling, or buying a boat. Muir Field will remain a neighborhood vet clinic and a way to continue to provide for pets post-adoption for the rest of their lives.

The on-site team is small — to start, it's you, a tech, occasionally a surgeon, and the practice manager. The clinic has space for two DVMs, and we're remodeling + updating to design around that. The main clinic nearby has two experienced DVMs and about ten support staff. A weirdly large number of them also just hang out at the clinic when they're not working, which is a good sign.)

The clinic is currently open during normal business hours but that can be shifted. The team manages its own coverage like adults. No formal on-call or weekend rotation — we partner with local emergency hospitals for, well, emergencies. Full-time preferred; Most of this is negotiable, and the broad strokes should look a lot like any other good general practice in the area. We pay well and fairly — not extravagantly, because we don't need to bribe people into compromising their morals or their quality of life:

$20% of your personal production — paid monthly, with your base as a floor you never drop below, and no negative accrual (a slow month never means you 'owe' us). Health, dental, and vision.
