Production Machinist (Temp, 2nd Shift)

MachinistThis Machinist role focuses on setting up, programming, and operating CNC and other types of machines to produce high-quality parts while maintaining strict quality, safety, and documentation standards. You will work with a variety of CNC equipment, perform routine preventive maintenance, and support continuous production across multiple shifts in a modern manufacturing environment.ResponsibilitiesSet up, program, and operate CNC machines and other machining equipment, including mills and lathes, to produce precision components according to specifications.Use conversational programming as well as G-code and M-code to program mills and lathes, including establishing zero and reference points, setting tool registers and offsets, applying tool compensation, and configuring conditional switches.Install and adjust three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers on mills and lathes.Load and adjust bar feeder systems to support continuous and efficient production runs.Read and interpret blueprints, engineering plans, material documents, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, and machining parameters, including geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).Verify machine settings and part quality by measuring positions, first-run parts, and sample workpieces, making adjustments as needed to maintain specifications.Monitor drilling, grooving, cutting, turning, facing, and thread chasing operations to ensure parts meet dimensional and surface finish requirements.Adhere to quality assurance procedures and processes to maintain consistent product quality and compliance with specifications.Perform routine preventive maintenance on machines and equipment in accordance with manufacturer recommendations, and coordinate repairs when needed.Maintain continuity between work shifts by documenting actions, irregularities, and ongoing operational needs, and by communicating issues to the appropriate team lead or supervisor.Complete and maintain accurate operational documentation, including production records and quality logs.Keep the work area and department clean, organized, and free from hazards to support efficient and safe operations.Follow all relevant safety guidelines, procedures, and regulations, and promptly report or flag any equipment or safety issues to the appropriate team lead, supervisor, maintenance, or EHS personnel.Participate in training and skill development activities during the initial training period and as new equipment or processes are introduced.Essential SkillsProven ability to set up, program, and operate CNC mills and lathes in a manufacturing environment.Hands-on experience with horizontal mills and multi-axis CNC mills, including 5-axis machining.Proficiency in conversational programming for CNC equipment.Strong knowledge of G-code and M-code programming for mills and lathes.Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering plans, material documents, specifications, orthographic drawings, and reference planes.Experience interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T) and applying them to machining operations.Skill in setting zero and reference points, tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches on CNC machines.Experience installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers.Competence in indicating and aligning vises and workholding devices and tramming equipment to ensure accurate setups.Ability to load and adjust bar feeder systems to support production.Experience verifying machine settings and part quality through measurement of first-run and sample workpieces.Proficiency in monitoring and adjusting drilling, grooving, cutting, turning, facing, and thread chasing operations.Familiarity with and adherence to quality assurance procedures and processes.Experience performing routine preventive maintenance on CNC machines and related equipment.Ability to maintain accurate production and quality documentation and logs.Strong awareness of safety guidelines, procedures, and regulations, with the ability to identify and report safety or equipment issues promptly.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience operating a variety of CNC machine brands such as Toshiba, Doosan, Mazak, Puma, Fortune, and similar equipment.Comfort working with horizontal mills and advanced multi-axis CNC machining centers.Familiarity with well-structured pass-off procedures between shifts, including documenting actions and irregularities.Experience working within a structured manufacturing environment with formal quality and safety programs.Ability to adapt to different machines and processes during an initial training period and as production needs evolve.Willingness to work various shifts, including second shift or weekend schedules, as needed by production demands.You will join a company that invests heavily in its people through comprehensive benefits, financial wellness programs, and ongoing development support. Work EnvironmentThis role is based in a manufacturing environment that operates on structured shift schedules. The primary schedule options include four 10-hour shifts (4x10s) Monday through Thursday from approximately 3:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. for second shift, with overtime opportunities on Fridays. A weekend schedule is also available, typically Friday through Sunday, where 36 hours worked are paid as 40 hours. New hires typically complete 3 to 6 months of training, often starting on first shift for approximately 60 to 90 days, depending on skill level and machine assignment, before moving to their regular shift. The facility uses a range of CNC equipment, including mills and lathes and various machine brands, in a production-focused setting that emphasizes quality, safety, and cleanliness.
