Meat Cutter - Night Shift

Job Summary

Assists customers and cuts meat to specifications for variety, size, quality, and trim for sale. Supports daily operations in meat and seafood departments. Increases customer confidence and loyalty by promoting consistent and compliant operating conditions. Provides fresh, appealing products with courteous, knowledgeable, and prompt service. Executes merchandising plans outlined in department planners, toolkits, or event packs while maintaining product levels, minimizing shrink, and tracking sales trends. Values diversity and supports an inclusive environment by embracing all team members’ backgrounds and experiences.

Essential Responsibilities

Service (60%)

Creates an environment that enables customers to feel welcome and appreciated, increasing customer confidence and loyalty. Prepares and packages food products, processes customer orders to specifications, and handles fresh meats, smoked meats, seafood, random weight, lunchmeat, frozen foods, and salted meats. Utilizes peak‑time cutting lists to cut and trim products per company standards; properly wraps, weighs, culls, slices, and grinds meat. Operates department equipment and tools and fulfills customer requests and special orders. Performs duties of a meat/seafood counter clerk as needed.

Leadership (20%)

Promotes trust and respect among associates by collaborating, promoting teamwork, and communicating company, department, and job‑specific information. Adheres to all local, state, and federal laws, and company guidelines.

Financial (10%)

Stocks and rotates department products to ensure freshness and date control; restocks and uses supply items efficiently to eliminate waste and maintain the lowest supply cost. Receives and breaks down meat deliveries, keeps the work area clean and safe, and monitors inventory/stocking conditions, reporting any discrepancies. Reviews and inspects product quality and freshness, taking appropriate action. Uses production planning tools to accurately produce fresh products and follows discard or markdown processes to reduce shrink. Ensures products are held at proper temperatures per food safety guidelines and retains documentation of temperature logs.

Compliance / Safety (10%)

Maintains company standards for safety, proper food handling practices, sanitation, and productivity. Adheres to regulatory compliance requirements pertaining to food safety, USDA & COl, and DOA. Executes all product recalls and withdrawals promptly while ensuring items are secured and removed from customer access. Reinforces safety programs by following procedures and reporting unsafe conditions. Notifies management of customer or employee accidents and reports safety risks, issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud. Ensures adherence to wage and hour policies and regulations and cultivates a culture of safety. Ensures all associates receive necessary safety training and follows hazardous assessment guidelines. Maintains equipment in good repair; reports and assists with remediation of safety hazards.

Relevant Experience

0‑3 years supervisory experience – minimum.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Must be 18 years of age.

Authorization to work in the United States or ability to obtain the same.

Successful completion of pre‑employment drug testing and background check.

Strong customer service skills.

Exceptional interpersonal, motivational and communication skills.

Knowledge of basic math.

Ability to handle stressful situations.

Adequate knife handling skills and knife speed.

Knowledge of cutting, traying, wrapping, and labeling.

Environmental Factors

Physical Demands: Regularly stand or walk on various floor types, use manual dexterity, and perform repetitive movements with both hands/fet. Frequently reach waist level or overhead, carry, push, or lift loads up to specified weights. Occasionally sit, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb up to 10 ft. Working Conditions: Exposed to indoor, outdoor, cold, freezing, heated, and wet/humid conditions. Safety Risk Factors: Twisting back, walking on slippery or cluttered floor, working with hazardous equipment, exposure to sharp objects, noise, irritants, dust, fumes, sprays, cleaning solutions, and other toxins.

Required Equipment: Cleaning supplies, general office equipment, register, pricing gun, scales, scanner, material‑handling equipment (racks, carts, pallet jacks), baler/compactor, hardware tools (ladder, pliers, wire cutters), ice machine, shovel, powered cutting equipment (slicers, saws, grinders), knives, wrapping equipment, automatic meat wrapper, lobster tanks, box cutter. Personal Protective Equipment: Goggles, gloves, cutting gloves, fryer gloves, oven gloves, back brace. Lifting Requirement: 250 lbs.; 70 lbs. for pulling.

Travel: None.

Overnight: Occasional.
