Security Guard

Guards industrial or commercial property against fire, theft, vandalism and illegal entry.

Responsibilities include patrolling buildings and grounds of work site, examining doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure, following all hazardous waste handling guidelines, warning violators of rule infractions, inspecting equipment and machinery to ascertain if tampering has occurred, watching for and reporting irregularities, observing departing personnel to guard against theft of company property, sounding alarm or calling police or fire department in case of fire or presence of unauthorized persons, permitting authorized persons to enter property, recording data for supervisory staff, completing records and maintaining logs, performing janitorial duties, regulating vehicle and pedestrian traffic, and observing and complying with all safety and project rules.

Qualifications may require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field or in a related area. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision. Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.

Job requirements include applying basic technical skills and knowledge to complete assigned work, responding to standard requests from internal and external customers, and solving routine problems by following defined procedures.

Physical requirements include standing 30%, walking 40%, sitting 30%, lifting 50 lb., carrying 50 lb., pushing 70 ft-lb., pulling 70 ft-lb., climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, and fingering.
